and splashes of yellow hit me, but there was no gloomy assassin waiting for me.

Then I saw a movement right outside the window.

A smile pricked at my lips.

I walked out onto the porch and of course, Quinn was there. She spread out lazily on the outdoor couch, a coffee in her hands, mine set aside on the small side table next to her.

She met me with a smile, her dark hair falling messily over her face.

Just like every morning in the remote beach town, I felt my breath caught. Every time I saw her, I still couldn’t believe how lucky I was to find her. How lucky I was to have been able to create a life of my own with her.

“You should have woken me,” I said, sitting next to her, making sure I could lean against her heated skin.

She handed me my coffee before placing a kiss on my messy bedhead.

“It’s an important day,” she reminded a smile in her tone. “I wanted to make sure you got enough rest.”

I leaned into her, delivering a kiss to her throat. She let out a breathy sigh.

“And you?” I asked letting my tongue tease her skin. “Are younervous?”

She let out a laugh that caused my skin to heat.

“Excited,” she whispered. “And a bit turned on to see you covered in blood again.”

Images ofthat nightflashed through my mind. How she rubbed the blood into my skin. Her tongue traced patterns in my thigh.

“They are there, right?” I asked, nervousness creeping up on me. I squeezed the ceramic mug the warm liquid inside doing nothing to calm my racing heart.

“Yep,” she said, taking a sip of her coffee. “Exactly where they said they were.”

“Allof them?” I asked.

Quinn delivered a kiss to the top of my head.

“All six,” she confirmed.

Relief and excitement ran through me.This was my chance.

Before settling down at the cottage, I thought that I would be able to leave my life behind. I thought that maybe after killing my husband, I would be able to forget the life that I lived with him… but instead, it showed up in the weirdest way.

I still had the nightmares every once in a while, but now instead of the fear… I felt guilt. Because each painful memory from that time may have been inmypast, but I wasn’t the only person forced to those monster’s side.

Maybe it was because, for the first time in my life, I had an expansive future in front of me. One that I could do anything with. One that had a person next to me who would stop at nothing to make my dreams a reality.

No matter how bloody they were.

“Thank you,” I said, pulling away from her to send her a grateful smile.

“Anything for you, baby,” she said, her voice dropping into a low murmur. “I’ll be there the entire time, watching, and making sure no one stands in your way.”

I’m such a lucky girl to have the perfect, murderous girlfriend willing to put her life on the line for me.

“I love you,” I whispered, and just like every other time her eyes widened and a light brush of blush covered her cheeks. This was the only timeIcould render her speechless and I drank in every moment of it.

At first, I hadn’t been able to say it, but now that I delivered the lines more often than her, it was her turn to be caught off guard by them.

“And I you, little agent,” she said. “More than I ever thought possible.”
