“It’s not that bad.”

“Wolf shifters and vampires get along?”

“Of course. Vampires are nice.” He furrows his brows, like he’s confused I’m even asking the question. “I’m going to get to class. Will is waiting in there for you.”

I lift my hand and wave at him as he turns and walks off.

I consider his words as I head into the classroom. I slide into the desk next to Will.

Will looks up, his brown eyes homing in on me. “You smell good.”

I raise an eyebrow. “Uh, thanks… I think.”

“Did something happen?” he asks.

I play with the end of my hair. “Nope.”

“Liar.” He gives me a pointed look. “But I will allow you to keep your secrets for now.”

I roll my eyes at him. “You’re annoying.”

“What is that human saying about the pot calling the kettle black?”

I huff, turning my attention forward. The bell rings as the teacher slips into the room, shutting the door behind her. I sink further into my seat, wishing that I could hide. Unfortunately for me, invisibility isn’t one of my superpowers.

The teacher’s eyes meet mine and her eyes widen a fraction.

Henley looks nice today.

It’s then that I realize—a lot of people are thinking about the way I look. They think I look different today.

I glance down at my outfit. I’ve worn this dress before. There is nothing special about it. And my hair looks the same as it always does. Iamhaving a good hair day, which is surprising after how little sleep I got last night.

A paper goes down on my desk. I read the words Will scratched out with his weirdly neat handwriting.

You look confused. What’s going on in that brain of yours?

I grab my pencil out of my backpack and write back to him.Everybody is thinking about the way I look. Apparently I am “pretty” today. Do I look different to you?

Will reads the paper and looks up. His eyes scan me, making me feel uncomfortable. He eventually writes something and passes the paper back.

You do look a little different—you’ve got this supernatural glow about you that I can’t explain. You also smell different. I don’t know if “pretty” is the word I’d use to describe you. Maybe charming. Like a succubus.

My eyes widen.A succubus?

He rolls his eyes before writing something back.

Trust me, you’re not THAT appealing. Just… charming enough to annoy me.

Haha,I write back.Parker told me that you’re a hybrid.

Will glares at me. A moment later, the paper goes back onto my desk.

That is NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS.

He underlined it three times. The last line was pressed so hard that there is a hole in the paper.

Sorry. I think it’s cool.
