“You’re crazy.”

He raises an eyebrow at me. “I don’t have to be a mind reader to know that every guy in this school has thought about kissing you.”

I ignore him, changing the subject. “Does Parker’s dad hate me? Because of my relationship with Parker?”

The smile slips from Blaine’s lips. “No, he doesn’t hate you. You’re just… complicated. He knows how Parker feels about you, but he also knows that you two can’t be together.”

“Because of the no dating rule.”

“It’s a law, actually. It’s not strictly enforced, but it is frowned upon. My parents are often used as an example,” Blaine admits. “Everybody in the pack knows that they argue like crazy. It’s why Mr. Thorne had to make our house soundproof. All the pack members were complaining about the yelling.” He points at his ears. “We have sensitive ears. You can still hear it if you’re close, but nobody complains anymore.”

My chest aches for Blaine. “You’re welcome to come stay at my house. We have a guest room.”

Blaine smiles widely. “Then Parker reallywouldkill me.”

I don’t know about that.

Blaine stands up from the tailgate and holds a hand out to help me down. “Come on. School is about to end. I should get you to Parker’s Jeep.” He winks at me. “Just keep the whole ditching class thing between us, okay?”

“Sure.”

Blaine is a bad influence.

I was scared.

“Why weren’t you two in class?” Parker asks as he meets Blaine and me by his Jeep.

“The teacher released class early.” Blaine winks at me. “Right, Henley?”

I just grin, saying nothing.

Blaine waves at us, saying he’ll see us tomorrow.

Parker glances at me as Blaine walks off, raising an eyebrow. “Did your class really let out early?”

“Nah, we ditched,” I admit. “But don’t tell Blaine I told you.”

He chuckles, opening the passenger side door for me. “He and Will skipped study hall last year basically every day.”

“Will skipped?” I ask, disbelief evident in my tone. “You’re talking about Will Lancaster, right?”

Parker grins. “Blaine can talk anybody into doing what he wants, even Will.”

Yeah, that’s probably true. Even now, I’m considering what he said to me. Maybe I should tell Parker the truth.

But first… I have to tell my dad. Andifit goes well with my dad, maybe I’ll tell Parker.

“Are you okay?” Parker asks once we pull out onto the road. “You’re quiet today.”

“I’m just thinking.”

Parker reaches over the center console and grabs onto my hand. “Don’t worry about anything Will says to you, Henley. He doesn’t control me.”

“I know.” But that doesn’t mean what he says isn’t true. “But I don’t want to talk about Will.”

Parker brings my hand up to his lips and gently kisses my knuckle. My heart skips a beat, but he never comments on it.
