“And you’re okay with that?”

“Yeah, I think it’s best. Rescues need manpower and financial support. If the city is on board, there will be an increased access to funding. It will allow Oakville to help more animals.”

Liza tilted her head. “So, what are you going to do?”

“I actually wanted to talk to you about that. But, can I use the bathroom first? I’ve had to go for the last thirty minutes.”

With a smirk, Liza said, “I suppose.”

After eating dinner as a big group, Liza and Miller sat outside thanks to the warmth of a patio heater. It also helped that they were snuggled together under blankets on the loveseat with Randall in between them.

“So, spill. What are you going to do now that the rescue is closing? You know, you could always move here…” Liza wiggled her eyebrows.

Miller cocked his head. “Actually…”

Liza's eyes went wide.

“There’s an animal shelter in Santa Monica in need of an executive director.”

“Whoa, whoa, whoa.” Liza shook her head. “I’m not sure this is real. Do something so I know I’m not dreaming.”

“Like kiss you?” Miller asked.

“No, that still makes it seem like a dream.”

Miller reached over and poked her stomach repeatedly. She burst out laughing. “Okay, stop! Too much. I’m super ticklish!”

A low growl rolled out from Randall.

Miller acquiesced, putting his hands up.

“Good boy, Randall." Liza patted the pup's head. Then, she smiled at Miller and put her hand on the nape of his neck. “You’re really gonna move to Los Angeles?”

“I mean, I’m thinking about it.” He looked down at where their fingers were intertwined. “I know that I’ve been weird since Maggie’s wedding. I just felt like you moving meant that we’d grow apart. That you’d move on. That I’d have to figure out a way to forget that Liza Eckland was ever interested in me.” Then he found her eyes, “But I don’t want to forget. I want to pull a reverse Legally Blonde and move to LA for my Elle Woods.”

Liza laughed. “Told you that movie was amazing. I didn’t realize it’d leave such a lasting impression, but I’m glad it did.”

Miller smiled over at her. “After Abigail, I never thought I could risk being in a relationship again. But, you’re worth it.” He rubbed her hand with his finger and stared into her eyes. “Just let me know now if you think it’s a horrible idea for me to move across the country.”

Taking a deep inhale, Liza nodded. She pulled her hand away from his. It was a big decision, a giant step forward in their fledgling relationship. What about the fact that she’d seen her parents' marriage crumble and so many others?

Were they just setting themselves up for heartache?

Miller wouldn’t be an accessory boyfriend. He would be the real deal.

“What if we disagree? Or what if you get annoyed with me?” Liza played with the blanket seam.

Miller huffed. “I’m pretty sure both of those things have already happened.” Liza looked up at him and saw the teasing wrinkle by his eyes. “Plus, being annoyed with you has become one of my favorite things.”

Liza shook her head. “How do you know just what to say?” Then she leaned in and kissed him for what felt like the millionth time that day and yet, it still wasn’t enough.

“Ew! Get a room!” Ada’s voice broke through.

Liza laughed. “Sorry!”

“Maggie’s making us all play charades." Ada motioned for them to come inside. "Don’t try to get out of it. It’s a waste of energy. Let’s just appease her so we can stay up late scrolling on our phones.” Ada ducked back into the cabin.

Miller stood and pulled Liza up next to him. “Just to clarify, is that a yes to me moving to California?”
