Tears filled her eyes now. “They took her. Two of the Russians, I think. They didn’t look like those cops.”

Liam turned to Gage. “We need to find those officers.”

The lieutenant moved away down the hall and got on his radio. They were connected to the Vanguard radio frequency, and he could hear chatter through one earpiece but had been ignoring it. Sounded like they found someone upstairs, a man they’d detained.

Jasper said, “I’ll get your mom taken care of.”

Liam nodded but didn’t move. He tried to go, but it was like his feet were stuck where they were. Was Roxie going to be dead by the time he got to her? After what he’d gained back with her in his life, he couldn’t let her go all over again.

Until he found her, there was still hope. As soon as he did, the outcome would be final.

“Go, honey.” Mom touched his cheek. “You need to find her before the little bit of faith she has falters.”

What did that mean?

“She prayed with us.”

Really? His brows rose. “She believes?”

“Find her. She needs you.”

Liam hugged his mom again and kissed her forehead. “Love you.”

“Yeah, yeah. I’m the best.” She chuckled and shoved him toward the door. “Go find your girl.”

Liam glanced at Destiny to make sure she was all right, then he went with Gage. They took the stairs to the floor above and found Peter standing above a guy rolled over onto his face. “Who is it? One of those cops?”

Peter shook his head. “They didn’t make it.”

They hauled the man to his feet, and Liam spotted the deadly look on Peter’s face. They had him back behind them, but all the Vanguard people looked like they were about to tear the guy’s head off. One of their people had been killed tonight and three were in the hospital—Bob and the two from the SUV bombing.

A bombing.

Liam looked at the man they’d stood up. “Raphi.” He got into the guy’s face. “Did you hire Brad Mills to plant that bomb that killed your uncle, Matvei?”

Raphi sneered. “Took you long enough to figure it out.”

“Roxie wasn’t downstairs.” He grabbed two handfuls of Raphi’s shirt. “Where is she?”

Raphi started to laugh.

Liam turned him and shoved him against the wall, pinning his hands behind his back. “Where is she?”

“I paid a debt.” The Russian looked down his nose at everyone gathered, even though he did not have the upper hand right now.

“I’m surprised you owe anyone anything, but things haven’t been going according to plan here, right? That’s why you needed help from that guy in jail.”

“Now I owe for that as well, but business will start up again.” Raphi’s jaw flexed.

“No, it won’t,” Liam said. “Because you’redone.”

He chuckled. “But so are you. Which means it wasn’t a total loss.”

“Where is she?”

“How should I know?”

Liam pulled him away from the wall, then slammed him against it again. “Where is she?” The words echoed in the hallway.
