“Oh, he talks,” she says, then turns on her heel to walk away, but I pull her back by her wrist and shoot her a glare. “Let go of me.”

“Not until you fucking tell me why you’re throwing a tantrum.”

She chuckles and bites her bottom lip, shaking her head. “Oh, I don’t know. Maybe because my so-called husband is a cold bastard who makes me feel like I don’t matter!”

“You knew what you signed up for, Amara,” I remind her, crossing my arms. “What’s with this shitty mood?”

“Shitty mood!” she scoffs, throwing her dress to the floor and kicking off her heels. “My life is about to come to an end and you want to know why I’m in a shitty mood?”

I frown at her answer and shake my head. “You knew this would happen once I found my Fated; why the tantrum now? Why guilt trip me into something you willingly agreed to?”

She seems taken aback at this question and visibly pales. “Willingly agreed? You think I WANTED THIS?” she cries out, her eyes shimmering to purple and welling with tears.

“The waterworks don’t work on me, but you’re more than welcome to try,” I say, then stalk towards her and she backs up against the wall with a terrified look in her eyes. “Do what is required of you, wife, and nothing more.”

“Why are you so cruel to me?” she says as tears stream down her face. “What do I have to do to make you not look at me with disdain?”

I chuckle and shake my head before saying. “Play the perfect wife, as expected.”

This seems to flick a switch in her because the next thing I know, Amara has her arms around my neck and her lips crash to mine. Her tongue begs for entry, but the mere feel of her skin against mine is so strange that I am momentarily stunned.

I remove her arms from my neck, push her gently against the wall and level her with a glare. “If you try that again, it might just be the last thing you ever do,” I growl, seething with silent rage even as her bottom lip trembles.

“Don’t you find me beautiful anymore?” she murmurs.

“You’re stunning,”

“Then why don’t I feel it in your gaze? Most men love a submissive Fae woman.”

I sigh and take a step back, letting go of her wrist.

“Amara, even if your blood is an irresistible drug, I will never see you as desirable because my heart and soul belong to another,” I say, then offer her an apologetic smile before turning around and walking out of the mansion to find my Fated.

KATHERINE

Clearview Point - a sleepy little town in the middle of nowhere. A perfect place to raise your kids, a perfect place to settle down, and a perfect place to hide your true identity.

I stumbled onto this place after buying a car in Vegas and just driving; so I settled down here and made it my temporary home. Xenia is somewhere close to Texas right now, but I told her not to let me know where exactly, just so she can be safe.

So here I am, hiding out in a small town and living in a small apartment working a barista/night manager job, and feeling terrible. I’ve lost so much weight from letting my frustrations out at the gym that I’m nearly unrecognizable.

I have to take my hurt out on something… before I crawl back to Gabriel Priest.

Parking my car next to the little cafe close to the university campus (yes, this small town has one), I walk inside to start my afternoon shift. Noah, the freshman student who works here part-time, looks up when I enter and gives me a smile.

“Hey, Kat,” he pushes up his glasses and greets me with that sweet, dimpled smile I can’t help but return.

He’s tall and lean since he’s a swimmer, has dyed blue hair, hazel eyes, a cute little beauty spot right on his chin, and piercings in his ear.

When I first met him, I thought he was still in his high school rebellious phase, but once I started to know him better, I realized that he never had one. THIS is his rebellious phase after growing up with strict parents and being a pastor’s only son.

“Hey, hey,” I greet him back. “Quiet morning?”

“Nah, it only quietened down about half an hour ago. Fall morning rush and all that,” he says, handing me my apron. “Got any plans for tonight?”

I raise my eyebrow. “Me? No, why would I?”

Noah rolls his eyes and leans on the counter. “Clem invited me to a Halloween party tonight, but I don’t know if I should go,” he says, looking uncomfortable.
