A growl emits from Gustav’s chest, and he shakes his head. “I don’t need more reasons to eliminate Kazimir, Gabriel. Let us plan this and get it over with so my family may finally rest in peace.”

Oh, there’s heavy hatred here.

I look at Gabriel and frown. “Why are they all here? What’s going on?”

Gabriel places an arm around my shoulders and kisses the side of my head.

“They’re the ammunition in this war, little lamb. Their hatred for the council runs deeper than mine could ever go; if anyone is going to help me get rid of Kazimir and his band of cunts, it’s these three.”

The twins both chuckle and I turn my gaze to them. “Oh, it’s so much more than hatred, though. For what he forced my brother to do, Kazimir does not deserve a quick death,” one of the twins says and I see the grin slightly drop from the other’s face.

There's history here - a deep history that I need to be made aware of. I’ll have to get more info from Gabriel later.

Amara clears her throat and takes a tentative step forward. “Excuse my straightforward question, but how will this help me? What purpose will I serve in all of this?”

Gabriel laughs at her question as if it’s the dumbest he’s ever heard. “Amara, you’re our link to the council. Your words will get the entire merry band over here within a day if you had to tell them about the so-called traitors here at the estate. One word from you, and Kazimir will run to his death.”

My eyes widen and anxiety settles deep in my gut when Gabriel says this and the realization hits me like a fucking brick: he’s going to use himself as bait to lure Kazimir out.

GABRIEL

By the look Katherine gave me before storming out, I can safely say that I am in a world of trouble. I didn’t mention our visitors to her before knowing what he had planned, but now they’ve surprised me by arriving earlier than expected.

“She looks peeved off, mate,” Aaron comments when Katherine leaves. “Perhaps we should plan this better, yeah?”

“I didn’t expect you until later on this evening,” I say, before turning to Valentine. “Please see to Amara before joining us in the office.”

He nods, then heads towards her and I gesture for the rest of the men to follow me. The things I discovered about Amara and her family have not only added to my fury, but now I have guilt coiling in my gut as well.

She was exactly what I asked for and the council found her, ripped her from her family, killed her husband, and now holds her daughter captive. Her misery is all because of me, now it’s up to me to make it right.

“So, what is this about using the Fae woman to get Kazimir here?” Gustav asks when we’re seated in my office. He’s wearing his usual scowl of disapproval, which doesn’t surprise me.

I lean back and brace my elbow on the arm of my office chair. “He’s using Amara as a spy and has her reporting back to him with what I’m doing. Valentine discovered this when he drank her blood and reported it to me as soon as he figured out what he was seeing.”

Aiden chuckles. “Ah, of course the cunt would do something like that and from what you’ve mentioned, he’s using her daughter as leverage,” he says, shaking his head. “Proper bastard, that one.”

“He also sexually assaulted my Fated while I was deep in slumber and threatened both our lives if she told,” I say, watching as shock fills their eyes. Even Gustav looks disgusted at what I’ve just mentioned.

“That would send any sane man to start a war,” Aaron says, before leaning forward. “Now, where do we start with this? What happens after we get the council here?”

Gustav suddenly chuckles, and a dark look crosses his face. “I have news that might just be our turning point in all of this,” he says, grinning. “Did you know that Kazimir and Eirisse killed their entire Pureblood line so only their offspring could take over and lead? Father, mother, siblings - all gone.”

“Wouldn’t put it past them,” Aiden says, shrugging. “What does this have to do with the price of pies?”

Gustav crosses his arms. “One slipped under their radar; the eldest Vasile. He didn’t die, he merely stopped his own heart while hiding from the twins.”

I sit forward with a thudding heart. “Are you telling me there’s a Vasile older than Kazimir and Eirisse?” Turning point? More like a fucking revelation. If there’s a sibling older and more powerful than Kazimir, and he’s on our side, the entire council is as good as dead.

“There is,” Gustav nods. “And he’s been at my side ever since, stewing in the same hatred as me since they killed his Fated and children. He wants them dead, and he wants them to suffer.”

The twins both laugh uproariously, knowing what this could mean for all of us. An angry Vasile Pureblood older than the twins, the four of us, and vendettas on all sides? This victory is ours, without a doubt.

“This is the best news I’ve heard in a long time. When were you planning on telling us about this?” I ask.

Gustav shrugs. “When you decided to stop being their dog and turn your hatred into a weapon. We have all been waiting for you, Gabriel, since your blood started this uprising in the first place. When the other families find out that we’re no longer governed by the council, they will all look to you as our leader.”

I blanch at his remark but sense no bullshit before I turn my attention to the twins, who are both nodding.
