Whatever it is, I'm going with it. If Sutton wants to be close, I'm game.
I lean closer to her. "What's our plan for tonight?"
I can see the wheels turning in her head as she tries to remember. "We were going to watch a movie." She pauses, pouting at me. "You're going to stay and watch with me, right?"
Of course, I will. Anything to spend time with her. She starts to pull the blankets up and around us but struggles. I quickly cover us as she sighs and leans into me even more.
I reassure her. "Of course, I'm staying."
"What movie are we going to watch?" I ask.
"Leia picked it out, but I forgot the name." She turns to look at Leia, and, I assume, asks her the movie's name. When we both look over at Leia's bed, they are already watching us.
"You guys comfy over there?" Ronan asks.
Leia follows up with, "You're holding his hand."
Sutton must have forgotten because she looks down and rips her hand from mine.
She shakes her head, denying what they saw and what I felt. "No, I wasn't." Adorable.
I can't help myself. I grab her hand again and intertwine our fingers. Settling it back on her lap, where it was.
I watch her as she bites at her bottom lip, and a soft pink flush makes its way onto her cheeks. I resist the urge to lean down and kiss her. Who would have ever guessed that I might have thought about doing that exact thing multiple times in the past two weeks?
Sutton breaks eye contact, turning her gaze towards Leia; I follow her line of sight, which lands on the other bed. They both grin at us, their expressions suggesting we're some kind of circus act here for their amusement.
At this point, I couldn't care less about what anyone thinks. My heart flutters whenever I think of Sutton, and I've come to terms with my obsession for her. I want the world to know, even if we're just friends. I want them to understand that she's off-limits, and I'd protect her at all costs.
Breaking the weird silence, Leia chimes in, "We were going to watch 'The Notebook,' but now that Sutton has someone to watch over her, we can go for the latest Exorcist movie." I feel Sutton's grip on my hand tighten.
I lean in, asking teasingly, "Scared?" Her soft brown eyes widen as she nods, "Yes." Hell yeah, I secretly hope she'll snuggle up to me during the movie.
Leia sets up the movie and then crawls back into her bed. Ronan sprawls out on the lower half of Leia's bed, while I find myself cuddled up next to Sutton in her bed.
Goddamn, this is a perfect night. So much better than spending it alone or with Ronan. I could definitely get used to this.
CHAPTERSEVENTEEN
SUTTON
A few dayshave passed since the guys last came over to watch movies with us. I'd say I've settled into a good routine at this point, and I'm thoroughly enjoying my first semester of college.
Hockey season is in full swing, monopolizing all of Lincoln's time. Despite both of us being quite busy, him more than me, he still manages to find time to text me every day. His messages are a delightful blend of everything and nothing, and it's more than just nice. It's something I never expected – to want to chat with someone other than Leia so much, but I genuinely enjoy it.
The best part is that Lincoln is no longer resistant to our budding friendship. If anything, he's fully on board with it.
My phone dings for what feels like the millionth time this afternoon, and Leia reaches for it before I can snatch it up. Her eyes light up when she reads Lincoln's name flashing on my screen.
We're sprawled out on her little bed, on our stomachs, working on homework. Leia playfully nudges her shoulder into mine, teasing, "You like Lincoln."
I detest when she does this. "No, I don't."
There's a sly, teasing tone in her voice as she leans pretending to kiss me. "You wish he'd give you a little smooch, don't you?"
I push her face away from mine with a theatrical screech. "No!" I protest.
Am I that easy to read, or is she simply trying to rile me up? Leia throws her head back and lets out a contagious laugh. "Ha! You're such a terrible liar."
