I try to sound unbothered. "I wasn't lying, so how can I be a bad liar?"

She eyes me skeptically, her gaze piercing through my hesitation. "So, you're telling me that if Lincoln tried to kiss you, you would dodge it?" She playfully ducks her head to the side, mimicking me dodging a kiss.

My heart races, and I search for the right words to answer without appearing too eager. "Uh, well, no." I stammer, my voice trembling slightly. "I mean, I would be absolutely thrilled if he tried to kiss me! It's just that I want it to happen so bad."

I immediately regret my overly enthusiastic response. Leia's reaction is swift. She throws her arms around me, squeezing me in a tight embrace. "I knew it! He's crazy about you too."

I try to maintain some semblance of composure as I protest, "No, he's not." I attempt to push her off, my heart pounding in my chest.

Leia rolls her eyes at my denial. "Trust me, he gets this feral look in his eyes, like he'd beat anyone who tried to take you from him."

I'm taken aback by this revelation. "Really?" It's news to me.

Leia nods knowingly, as if I'm being silly for not noticing. "Yes. You're just too nervous around him to notice."

My heart rate spikes, and I can feel my pulse racing. "Oh, my god." I gently push Leia away and then immediately pull her close again. "What do I do?" I ask, a sense of panic settling in.

Leia dismisses my concern with a casual wave of her hand. "Just make a move."

"I can't do that," I protest.

She insists, "You can! It's not like you have to worry about him rejecting you."

I see the situation differently, the fear of rejection looming over me. "We're friends, and I say that loosely! There has been no indication of more."

Leia teases me, bringing up an embarrassing memory. "You said he grabbed your ass."

I cringe at the memory and retort, "He was half asleep!"

I can feel Leia’s exasperation, as she raises her voice, "You're making excuses! Do you want to truly embrace life? This is your chance! Seize it!"

As she utters those words, an icy shiver runs down my spine, and I stammer, "I'll pass out."

She assures me, "You won't, I promise."

Despite my apprehensions, I reluctantly agree, "I'll think about it."

Deep down, I know I won't actually entertain the idea. I've learned to guard my heart, having been let down by those who were supposed to care about me most. I refuse to add Lincoln to that list.

Leia, undeterred by my reservations, flashes an excited smile. "I have a good feeling about this."

Skeptical, I respond, "That makes one of us."

I long for her optimism to be right, but why would someone like Lincoln want anything to do with someone like me?

Leia abruptly interrupts my negative thoughts with an excited squeal, waving her phone in front of my face.

With a sing-song tone, she exclaims, "Guess who invited us out tonight?"

I sit up on the bed, grabbing her phone. As I scan the messages, I see that it's Ronan who wants to meet us after their practice since they don't have a game tomorrow. I can't help but wonder what Lincoln thinks about this.

As if on cue, my phone chimes with a text from the man himself. I show Leia the message, saying, "Lincoln just asked if I'm coming tonight." She leans in to read it.

Leia mutters, "Hopefully, in more ways than one."

Playfully, I give her a gentle smack on the arm, "Babe, no. I would die."

"You wouldn't die.” Leia rolls her eyes. “You would come."
