"You don't know that," he retorts.

That's absolutely right. I don't know that, but I'm the level-headed one in this relationship, so it's my duty to ensure he doesn't panic over this minor issue.

I reiterate, "I promise nothing will happen."

Ronan finally relaxes but looks deep in thought. "Okay, fine."

I'll take that as a win.

He declares, "You owe me dinner tonight."

I head to my room to change and get ready to leave. The incident appears to have been forgotten in Ronan's eagerness to secure a free meal. Ronan invites Liam and Marshall to join us, and they accept the offer.

Thank goodness we're moving on to a familiar routine.

CHAPTERTHREE

SUTTON

Leia didn't liewhen she said everyone comes here. Silver's Bar and Grill is teeming with Willow Park students, and the bustling atmosphere couldn't be further from my comfort zone. I'm not fond of crowds, making eye contact, or sweating, which makes this outing Leia's dream come true and my personal nightmare. Yet, I have to admit that my comfort zones are slowly expanding just by being here, and that thought alone brings a small smile to my face.

Leia nudges me, and we follow our server to a small booth toward the back of the bar. After the day I've had, I feel like I deserve this minor miracle.

As we settle in, I take a moment to observe the place. There's an overwhelming amount of silver and chrome everywhere, and the lighting is incredibly dim. What is the appeal of this place? On second thought, it's probably the cheap beer and the throngs of students that fill the establishment.

Leia waves her hand in front of my face, snapping me out of my thoughts. She's excited and demands, "Tell me everything!" Leia's curiosity knows no bounds, and not having her interrogate me would be nothing short of a miracle.

I reply, "Not much happened. The guy thought I wasn't allowed to be in your dad's office, and I got too flustered to correct him." Flustered is an understatement, but I'm not ready to admit it.

Leia leans halfway across the table, pressing for more details. "Who was the guy?"

I admit, "I'm not sure. I haven't checked Willow Park's hockey roster since Elliott and Marcus played." My lack of information disappoints her.

Leia doesn't give up, "What did he look like?" My face flushes as she asks. "Oh my god! You think he was hot!"

Apparently, I'm more transparent than I thought. I shush Leia and swat at her to make her sit like a normal person. She stares at me like she can see through my soul. I try to fan my heated face and mutter, "I guess he was."

Leia doesn't buy my half-hearted response. "I don't believe you!"

I give in to her relentless questions and recount our interaction. Leia hangs on my every word, utterly absorbed in my tale. This reversal of roles has her bouncing with excitement. Typically, she's the one with all the boy stories and gossip, so she relishes every opportunity to turn the tables.

She's so thrilled that she's bouncing in her seat. I kick her under the table, and she groans. Whispering to her, I say, "It was stupid, I was stupid. Can we just move on?"

Leia frowns, not satisfied with my attempt to brush it off. "Don't talk like that."

I match her frown with one of my own. "It was super embarrassing, Leia. I've handled worse situations better. I think he was so sexy that it stunned me."

Leia reaches across the table, grabs my hand, and declares, "You are a catch, and the mystery man would be lucky to be graced with your presence." She's stretching it, but her words never fail to make me feel better. "Thanks, babe."

After an hour of eating and chatting, our server delivers the bill. We both reach for our wallets, but Leia shoots me a glare. "I'm paying for my girl tonight. After the day you've had, it's the least I can do for you."

I express my gratitude, "Thanks, babe. You know how to treat a girl right." I put my wallet back in my purse, and when I look up again, I find myself making eye contact with the one person I never wanted to see.

A look of thunder passes over his sharp features as he stares at me from a distance. I can feel his gaze caress my body, sending a shiver down my spine.

Oh no.

Leia, looking concerned, asks, "What's wrong?" Her voice brings me back to the present, and I look into her eyes.
