His breath becomes ragged as he asks, "You've only been in college for a few months. Don't you want to see what else is out there?"

I respond with a bittersweet laugh. "If you haven't noticed, I'm not the best with people." My fingers absentmindedly trace circles on his bare chest. "I've never been interested in anyone like I was when I first saw you."

He places a tender kiss on my forehead. "Same."

"I don't want to keep looking because I've found something good, right?"

He grins. "Hell yeah." With unwavering sincerity, he adds, "I've never felt this way."

My lips curl into a smile, but it's short-lived.

Lincoln murmurs, "You're a good friend."

Oh.

He traces a finger along the curve of my jaw, finishing with a gentle grip on my chin. He draws my mouth toward his, sealing our connection with a sweet kiss. His tongue slips into my mouth, and it intertwines with mine effortlessly, as if we were always meant to be kissing each other.

Friends? Does he do this with his other friends that are girls? That thought makes me feel physically sick.

Lincoln breaks the kiss, and I let out a soft moan, momentarily forgetting what he said. Lincoln smiles against my lips and whispers, "Sleep. We have to get up early tomorrow."

I groan in agreement and whisper back, "Uh, yeah, okay."

He enfolds me in his embrace, and I attempt to drift into slumber, pushing away the nagging thoughts that insist we're only friends and I shouldn't expect more.

Ronan groans, and it's the tenth time in the last ten minutes. "Dude, let's go."

I reply, "Hold on."

"But—"

"I said, hold the fuck on." I lean down to plant one final kiss on Sutton's lips.

Ronan's groans persist. "You've been at it for like twenty minutes! You guys are turning me on, and if you keep it up, I'll have to take care of my problem on the drive home."

I pull away from a red-faced Sutton, shooting my best friend a stern look. "Seriously? Can't you control yourself for like five seconds?"

A smug, playful smile adorns Ronan's face. "Got your attention. Now, let's go." He opens the door and rolls both our suitcases outside. "Bye, Sutt! See you in a week!" he calls over his shoulder.

I embrace Sutton tightly. "I'll call you tonight," I assure her.

She eases into a small smile. "Okay, but don't feel pressured to."

She's too damn kind for her own good.

"Sweetheart, I want to," I insist.

Her eyebrows knit together. "I believe you."

I gently smooth out the wrinkle between her eyebrows. "Okay.”

I have no other reason to still be standing in the house and not in my truck. I'm not above asking dumb questions to stall having to leave. I drag my gaze over her cute sleep-wrinkled matching pajamas, trying to think of something to say.

Double-checking that she is still good with letting Marshall take her home, I can't help but hesitate. "You're good with Marsh giving you a ride back to the dorms?"
