These two girls are polar opposites yet so similar. I don't even know them, but their friendship reminds me of the bond between Ronan and me.

Ronan, still dazed, exclaims, "I'm in love." I better not be talking about my girl.

"What do you mean you're in love?" I ask, worried about who he's talking about.

"Did you see her?" he asks dreamily.

I'm relieved to hear he's referring to the other girl. I don't want Ronan getting involved with the short, curly-haired, green-eyed girl who I can't stop thinking about.

Marshall adds, "Both of them were hot. The one that was terrified of Linc was sexy as hell, in a quiet and innocent type of way."

My body tenses as they discuss how attractive they are. Marshall is known for his promiscuity, and I can't stand the idea of him pursuing her or her friend.

I snap, "Shut the fuck up," prompting Marshall to wisely keep quiet.

Ronan seems to want to dig deeper into the situation, but I don't want to talk about Sutton or her friend anymore. This is the end of the story for me, but Ronan is persistent.

For the rest of dinner, I try to push the thoughts of Sutton out of my mind. But when I close my eyes later, all I can dream about are the freckles on her pretty face.

This can't be good.

CHAPTERFIVE

SUTTON

Three weeks have passedsince the incident at Silver's, and Lincoln has been a frequent presence in my life. I can't deny that I think about him every day. It's a bit unnerving how I can't get him off my mind.

Leia, being the determined investigator she is, has gathered a wealth of information about him, including his name, Lincoln Golden. I might need professional help because I can't seem to stop thinking about him, which is far from normal.

Adding to my dilemma, my only friend outside of my family, Liam, happens to be Lincoln's roommate. Liam is an incredibly kind person, and it's surprising that we struck up a friendship. Now, I see Lincoln everywhere, and I secretly hope he's looking for me, even though I'm terrified to talk to him.

Liam tried to convince me that Lincoln is a good guy, but so far, I've seen no evidence of that. If anything, I wish we'd met under different circumstances.

I often find myself daydreaming about different scenarios where Lincoln and I meet in a cute, romantic way. But the reality is far from that, and I find myself constantly dwelling on him.

Leia bursts into my room, tackling me onto my bed, making me scream in surprise. "What's wrong with you?" I ask, annoyed.

She laughs hysterically and finally composes herself. "You won't believe what my dad told me."

I'm relieved to hear some potentially good news. "What did he say?"

With a wicked smile, Leia reveals, "He said the team captain thought you were stealing plays to give to another team! You!" She laughs at the absurdity of it all.

I knew he suspected I was up to something due to my reaction, but stealing plays? I'm almost impressed he thought I was capable of that. "Oh god. What did your dad say to him?"

She chuckles, "He laughed in his face and told him to mind his own business."

Leia seems to take immense pleasure in the situation, which lifts my spirits. She knows how to make me feel better even about embarrassing moments. "You're lucky I love you," she says.

I’ve had enough of uncomfortable situations for a while, and I'm not eager to face Lincoln again at the charity skate. Leia reassures me that everything will be fine, but the nerves still gnaw at me.

I can't help but remember Leia's words about Lincoln's appearance.

"He's cute."

I react defensively, "W-what? Don't look at him."

Leia quickly reassures me, "I won't look at him, promise."
