“Hey!” Greg catches his breath when they get to us.

Luca is still jogging in place. He motions to Greg and then continues on his path.

Greg winces.

“I need to jog more to keep up with him.” He jokes pointing to Luca who’s already almost out of our sight sprinting the rest of the way. “I’ll walk with you guys. Nick is already there.”

Greg cocks his eyebrow at me, noticing the breath I let out, relaxing in the fact that Nick didn’t ditch Alex because of me. It’s quite the opposite.

After Alex gets his gear on and I settle into the player’s bench, once again in awe that I’m actually sitting on the player’s bench, Nick skates over to us with none other than Hank Davies. The Hank Davies.

NHL pro hockey god, and Drexton Hall alumni. He retired eight years back, but is still a legend in the game for being able to play any position and be excellent at it.

Last I heard, he was doing charity work with young hockey teams and traveling the world.

So, what is he doing here? And why is he skating over to us with his hand on Nick’s back in a fatherly gesture?

“Hey! This is Hank.” Nick says, like it’s no big deal.

I shut my mouth to swallow realizing it dropped open the moment I saw them and now it’s so dry I can’t make out any words.

“Hi,” I manage in a low breath.

Alex is better. His hand is shaking Hank’s the second they get to us.

“Wow. Mr. Davies. I am a huge fan. So is my sister here.” Alex nudges me to get myself together. “She had like hundreds of pictures of you up on her walls at home.”

“Alex!” I yell punching his side as my face heats.

I can only imagine how red it is. Nick laughs looking right at me for the first time today.

“I had like one poster, Mr. Davies.” I assure him as I shake his hand.

It doesn’t stop my entire body from shaking in nerves.

“Just Hank,” he tells us with a broad smile. “Are you ready kid? Nick tells me you have some good talent, under all these nerves.”

Hank gestures to how we’re both fidgeting.

“Relax,” Nick says to Alex, but his voice relaxes me the same. “Remember what we talked about, no one is here to judge you. We’re just having some fun.”

Alex goes off with Hank.

“How do you know Hank Davies?” I ask Nick when they’re out of earshot.

“What? That didn’t come up as you were stalking me?” I start to deny any stalking, when Nick just laughs. He’s joking. “I met him years ago in high school. He helped my team out, and he was in town today. So, I made a call.”

“Nick, you really didn’t—” I start to thank him and he just skates off to join Luca and Greg who are smiling like they know something I don’t.

Nick wouldn’t even look at me while we were talking. He’s really sticking to us not being friends.

I take the time to finish the article I’m writing. I want to get it in before the deadline tonight.

I just hope they print it.

It’s my jab at Dustin. Writing an article about the same game he is.

He never proofreads my articles about the Ice Dance team and the pictures get finalized after Dustin approves which ones stay and which ones go. I’m titling it,Dancing with the Biscuit,so he won’t even realize what it’s about.
