This may or may not backfire on me. I’m so over being pushed around, I don’t give the consequences a second thought.

“What are you writing over here?” Luca comes over, taking a water break.

“It’s for the newsletter tomorrow.” I look up at him. “Tell me, how did it feel assisting in the game winning goal on Friday?”

“Is this an interview?” He cocks his eyebrow.

“It can be considered just a comment about the game.” I’m almost done writing it, but having a direct quote from Luca may push it up another notch.

“Hmm.” Luca thinks about it, and I don’t know if he’s deciding how to answer the question or whether or not he should even answer it. Luckily, he decides to answer. “It was a mix of emotions. At first I was still enraged at being put in the box by a bogus call. Then the adrenaline kicked in to get the puck to Holt. I heard him whistle as he flew by me, letting me know he was there. I knew we had it at that moment. Yeah, there was a possibility Holt would miss or the goalie would stop it, but I just knew. I think it was my confidence I felt that sailed through the puck in Holt’s direction. Once it was in, I felt triumphant. It was my bigfuck youto the other team.” Luca looks down at what I’m writing. “Maybe you could spin that to make me sound a little better?”

“Not a chance.” I laugh. “It sounds authentic, but maybe you should work on your speeches before you get drafted.”

He laughs, but gets called away.

“Luca “The King” Kingivson.” I mutter to myself. The nickname has a nice ring to it.

I’m finished writing just as Alex skates over with Hank Davies talking to him, about things he could work on.

Hank pulls out his card and hands it to Alex.

“I have to run, but here’s my card. I’ll have to work some things out to see what we can offer, but I’ll be in touch. Just email me your information as soon as you get home.” He reaches out to shake my hand too. “It was nice meeting both of you.”

After saying goodbye to the other guys, he skates off with Nick to have a private conversation.

Alex hands me the card with a wide grin on his face.

I look and see the Drexton Hall logo on it. Underneath it says Hank Davies, Senior Scouting Agent, with his email and contact information.

My mouth drops, staring at Greg who shrugs, Luca who gives us a wide smile. Then my eyes go to Nick. He’s skating back with a knowing grin.

These three guys didn't just get my brother another shot, they just got him into his dream school.

“We didn’t know until Nick made us come here.” Greg motions to Nick before he gets to us. “We’ve all met Hank before just as an alumnus. Apparently, he just took the job as a scout a couple of months ago.”

Alex skates over to Nick and gives him a big hug. Nick’s taken aback and I watch as Alex apologizes and thanks Nick with tears in his eyes. He can’t help it.

Nick smiles as Alex falls to his knees on the ice, crying and just looking up in pure happiness at the arena.

I can’t contain myself either.

I’m crying like a baby watching my brother’s dream come true.

Chapter 30

Nick

Watching Alex’s reaction and seeing Lenny balling on the bench, is bringing tears to my own eyes.

I remember the first time I got picked up by Drexton and it wasn’t like this.

Yeah, it was my dream school, but I don’t remember being this happy. I remember the scout coming to me with an offer, fighting with my dad, and my mom fighting with him.

I remember my sisters being happy and telling me not to worry about them. It was my granddad who had tears in his eyes as he told me how proud he was of me.

I was happy. I still am.

Alex thanked me over and over, saying he didn’t think it would actually happen.
