“Was that Nick Miller?” Bridget asks as soon as I step foot in the door. “I saw him touching you. Are you two going to do it again?”

She’s teasing me, raising her eyebrows suggestively.

Ever since I told her about our one night and two run-ins she’s been asking me if I’m going to see him again.

She didn’t even believe me when I told her about our one night last semester! Now she keeps teasing me about if we’re going to hook up again.

“Yes and no,” I say, answering both her questions.

At least I don’t think we are going to “do it” again. It was one night. That’s it. Nick Miller has tons of girls swooning over him all the time. I don’t need to be one of them.

“And shush!” I hush Bridget. “I told you that in confidence!”

“Well, he wasn’t being very secretive out there. Why do you have to be?” Bridget always makes a good point. She’ll be an excellent lawyer one day. “Are we going to their party Saturday? Maybe he’ll confess his love for you there.”

“Bridget!” I growl at her. “For that, we are definitely not going.”

She rolls her eyes at me.

I still haven’t decided if I want to go, but I already invited Bridget and Layla. They know I’m going.

I’m crushing on Nick so badly, but he is way out of my league.

I’m trying not to like him, but then he keeps touching me and I find myself spiraling down this tunnel again.

“You know as well as I do, you want to go. So, we’re going! We have nothing better to do. It’s our junior year and we’re living on sorority row! We have to go to parties this year.” Bridget pushes her glasses up her nose.

That’s when I know she’s going for the finishing line. The closer.

“Even if Nick Miller is not interested, that doesn’t mean there won’t be a plethora of hot hockey players in one spot. None of that will stop us from just having fun. You need fun. I need fun. Let’s have fun before we get bogged down in school work and sorority sister responsibilities.”

She has a point.

Damn she’s good!

“Fine! Only because it’s the beginning of the semester and there’s a possibility of seeing the new players on the hockey team. Research purposes only.” I agree, only because I’m trying to be a good sports journalist.

This school is full of good stories to write about hockey, yet I get stuck writing about the Ice Dance Team that I have absolutely no interest in. But that’s my assignment since I’m a junior and a girl.

The seniors get all the good stories for the Drexton Hall newsletter. And the guys. They get to cover hockey as if they were the only ones that knew the sport.

If I had a juicy story for the paper how could they not run it?

It’ll be the perfect setting to dig something up.

Saturday comes and I’m too exhausted to move.

Between working at the gym, classes, and hosting the pledges meet and greet last night I am ready to call it a day.

Forget the hockey team’s party and just watch movies in bed all night.

I could really go for a Mighty Ducks marathon.

Layla is too excited about this party. She’s never going to let me bail on this.

“Oh! Maybe Dale will be there!” She screams excitedly, clutching my arm.

Dale. Her love interest from last year, she hasn’t gotten over and who hasn’t returned any of her calls. He’s a senior this year and captain of the ski team. His excuse is that he’s too busy for a girlfriend. Poor Layla. She deserves better.
