What we have is real, and I would never do anything to destroy that. I’d give it all up for him. If I had to, I’d give up my dream of being a hockey journalist just to be with him.

The third period starts and Nick is still in his post but even under all that gear I can see how tense he is.

“How did you know all that?” I finally get the balls to confront Jeremy.

“Don’t worry about it.” He reaches into his bag and goes to slip the folder he’s been holding into it.

I grab it from him before he gets the chance to hide it away.

Sure enough, inside the folder is a print out of Nick’s radiologist report and doctor's record made out to the coach.

“How did you get this?” This is so wrong. It’s illegal to get these kinds of reports without some kind of authorization. It’s against Drexton Hall’s regulations for any of this to go public.

“Jeremy, where did you get this?”

He pulls it out of my hands and quickly shoves it back in his bag.

“I said don’t worry about it.” He hisses at me.

“We’re supposed to be a team here. So yeah, I am worried about it. We can get in trouble for this.” I could get kicked off the newsletter or even expelled if this somehow gets back to me.

If Nick thinks I had something to do with this, he’ll never talk to me again.

“We will if you don’t shut your mouth.” Jeremy snaps at me before nervously looking around. “Just be quiet. I’ll tell you later.”

I’m forced to sit through this game, watching Nick play like I’ve never seen him before. He’s like a robot, without any emotion or fluidity in his movements.

Drexton Hall wins without letting in any goals.

It should be a happy victory, but everyone can feel Nick’s tension on the ice. They go through the closing out motions as if nothing has happened because it’s only happening to Nick. I feel everything he’s going through as if it’s me. And it is me. I’m tied to this web and somehow, I have to make it right.

“Come on. We still have to cover the game and try to interview the players.” Jeremy stands and I follow him to the hall with the rest of the press.

I don’t even try.

The players come out, but I’m only searching for Nick’s face in the crowd that swarms.

Press and family or friends are all waiting around, but none of the guys that come out are my boyfriend.

If he still is my boyfriend.

I can’t think that way. We can get through this.

Our love is real.

When the hallway clears, I pull Jeremy to the side and stop him from leaving. “Tell me everything.”

He groans and rolls his eyes at me. “You know how this works Lenny. We do everything we can to get a good story.”

“I don’t want this getting back to me.” I point at his bag.

“Relax. No one knows I have that.” He whispers just in case anyone is listening.

“No one besides the person who gave it to you.” I point out, knowing he had to have gotten it from someone in the medical department.

There’s no way anyone else could have had access to that. Unless it wasn’t a student.

“Oh, come on Lenny. You know how this works. You do the same exact shit. We all do.” He shakes his head annoyed that I won’t let this go. “You’re going to sit here and tell me those interviews you got with Nick, weren’t because you were sleeping with him?”
