I go to say something, but technically he’s right. Nick doesn’t like to give anyone at Drexton an interview. He only did one with me after I promised sex.

But it’s not the same. I didn’t sleep with him to get the information. I slept with him, because I like him. We started sleeping together way before I wrote anything about the team or him.

“It’s not the same,” I try to argue. “I didn’t sleep with him just to get a story.”

Jeremy scoffs. “So, what? You’re in love with him?”

He throws his head back and laughs when I don’t answer.

I am in love with Nick, but that’s none of his business.

“My relationship with him is personal. It’s none of your business.”

“Right. But you’re fucking delusional if you don’t think he’s sleeping around or going to drop you once he makes it to the NHL.” He shakes his head. “I thought you were better than that. Either that or you're just a really good liar.”

“Enough!” I shout, because I don’t want to believe anything he says.

I know in my heart Nick loves me. None of that is true. He doesn’t know Nick like I do.

“So what? You slept with one of the students in the medical center to get that?” I ask, getting back to the real reason we’re still talking.

“Of course I did!” He shouts back at me. “What difference does it make?”

“You’re going to get expelled!” I scream.

He’s going to get me expelled. Somehow, I’m now involved in this.

“I got my information the same way you have.” He points in my face, spewing his words at me. “Fucking the tech, the same way you’ve been fucking Nick Miller, just to get a good story.”

I hate him.

I hate that he’s saying that about Nick and I.

I can’t stop what I do next. My blood is boiling and I don’t care what the repercussions are.

I slap him as hard as I can, clean across his face.

“You fucking bitch.” Jeremy spats before he comes towards me with the same fire and hate in his eyes.

I don’t know what he’s going to do to me, but I’m scared. He’s taller and stronger than me and there’s no one around to save me.

My back hits the wall when I try to get away from him. I thought we were alone, but three large men come barreling towards us.

“Whoa.” Luca steps between us and cages me in to protect me.

I peer around him to see Greg push Jeremy away.

“Don’t.” He warns Jeremy, but at the same time Nick grabs Jeremy from behind and slams him against the opposite wall.

“Nick! Don’t!” I shout, trying to get out from around Luca. “Luca, move!”

He finally steps aside to let me pass.

Jeremy deserves to get punched. Just like he deserved my slap, but if Nick beats him there will only be backlash.

“It’s ok, man.” Greg holds Nick’s shoulder to stop him. “Let it go. Lenny is fine.”

“Nick.” I breathe out, finally able to touch him like I needed to the entire night. “Let it go.”
