I slip the shirt on, then put on my jacket as I look back at his bed before going out the door.

I feel like I’m being watched. I look at him and his roommate, but neither move. I’m losing it. Just being paranoid.

Shaking my head, I slip my shoes on and leave. Slowly and quietly closing doors and making my way down the steps.

The house is quiet with just some voices coming from out in the back. Some guys are sleeping on the couches around the living room. One has a couple curled into it. No one wakes up, and there’s no one around to see me.

It’s the best I could’ve hoped for.

On the walk home I breathe in the fresh night air. It’s still here. The feeling of a new semester. The clean country mountain air fills my lungs with hope of a good term.

I haven’t lost it yet, after all.

Chapter 9

Lenny

“Good morning sunshine!” Bridget happily calls out over her blender while making a smoothie.

Bridget believes eating an actual breakfast is a waste of her time that she could be studying. Now she can study while she drinks her breakfast.

“I would ask what happened to you last night, but I already know.” She winks at me. “Did you wake up dreamily in his arms as he confessed his love for you?”

“What? No!” I screech.

How does she even know?

Well it was probably good she knew I was ok, but seriously I didn’t tell her where I was.

“Good guess,” I smirk, on to her game. “But no, I came home right after. No dreamily waking up and no confessing of love of any kind.”

“Oh, it’s not a guess,” Bridget smirks back, knowingly. “Layla told me where you were when I couldn’t find you anywhere!”

She passes me the last bit of her smoothie that doesn’t fit in her cup.

“Here this will wake you up,” she says smugly, patting my hand that rests on the counter.

“What do you mean, Layla told you?” I don’t believe her. This is one of her manipulating games to get me to admit something.

I didn’t tell Layla where I went either, unless she saw me walking up the stairs. I thought I was so careful.

Bridget shrugs.

“She told me you were getting busy up in Nick’s room,” she says over her shoulder while washing out the blender.

The smoothie is good. I take a little more from her cup while her back is turned. I don’t have time for breakfast. I have to be at the gym for my shift by nine.

“Layla, on the other hand, was having fun with his roommate. What’s his name?” Bridget thinks about it and shrugs. “I don’t know. He’s on the team too.”

“How was your night with that guy you were getting cozy with?” I deflect to change the subject.

“Nice try.” She points at me, on to my plan. “We had a good time talking before heading our separate ways. Where he met back up with hisgirlfriend.” Bridget lets out a disappointed sigh, but waves it off quickly. “So now back to your night.”

“Gotta go!” I bolt out the door before I have to answer any more questions.

I can’t hide forever, but I am not in the mood to rehash my night at eight in the morning after I got maybe four hours of sleep.

I’m not so lucky to hide away at work.
