“So, she’s not home then?” I’m utterly confused. Does that mean she’s not home? Will be home soon?

Again, I have no idea what these girls are talking about.

It’s the second time in two days I get a door slammed in my face.

The whole block is filled with different sororities hazing their pledges in different ways again tonight. Theirs is by far the oddest.

The other ones have girls standing in their yards in bikinis.

As I pass one, a freshman kneels down before me asking me to marry them while she brushes her hair away from her face. Those I can handle.

Normally I would help them out. Ask the girl what she’d do for me as my wife. Tonight, I’m not in the mood and brush her off.

Saturday, we have a game and it will be a huge party night for all the sororities and fraternities celebrating the final days of pledge week.

Technically the week doesn’t end until Sunday morning when all the pledges have to clean the mess up.

I am set on staying very far away from all of that. I don’t even want to know what kind of party Alpha Sigma Alpha has planned.

“I think this girl is messing with your head,” Greg says as we get dressed for our game. “Like she told all her friends to do crazy shit to scare you off.”

“It doesn’t even sound that crazy. I was a huge Harry Potter and Hunger Games fan growing up.” Luca admits.

We stare at him in disbelief. He is a model surfer kid from California. Longer blonde hair, bright blue eyes, and the tan to go with it. There’s no way I’ve ever seen this guy with a book in his hand. I’m not even sure he can read.

“What? I didn’t get this good-looking until I hit puberty.” He stands up flexing and checking himself out in the mirror.

Fucking ass.

“Either way, it seems like you really like her. Are you going to ask her out?” Greg ignores Luca.

He’s been pushing the girlfriend thing all week.

I think he just wants to go on a double date with Lenny’s friend Layla.

Layla and Greg have been talking nonstop, but she has a hectic schedule. When she isn’t in class or at work she’s at gymnastics, training. The girl eats and breathes gymnastics.

She’s good for Greg. Not too clingy so he can focus on hockey too.

“No. We’re just friends with benefits. Minus the benefits right now, which has not been fun.” I’ve been itching for Lenny. Not even Cora will do. “I hate pledge week. All the hot girls are too busy for us.”

It’s true every year. Pledge week is our baron week or celibate week, depending on who you ask.

The hockey team doesn’t belong to any fraternities. It’s part of our agreement to be on the team.

“Well then, can I get the room Sunday? It’s the only night Layla isn’t busy.” Greg has been having lunch with her every day trying to make something happen, but it’s less than an hour each day and she’s too busy the rest of the time. They talk on the phone every night until they both pass out.

I only know because I can hear every one of their conversations over our makeshift room divider.

I agreed to give him the room. I owe him some privacy.

My plan is to be at Lenny’s.

I don’t care what I have to do to make it happen. It’s happening.
