Chapter 1

Kandace

“Can you see anything?” Willa asks after securing the thick, tight blindfold over my eyes.

Being Vice President of Delta Nu means having responsibilities.

That explains why I’m letting the Beta’s take over our Delta house, blindfold me and other willing participants, and tie me to a stranger in some weird new dating game charity event.

It’s for charity. How could I say no?

We’ve always been friends and allies with our Beta neighbors, so that means helping each other out. I took the lead, threw in my twenty-five bucks, and volunteered myself up like a piece of meat to help their cause. They’ll owe us some day soon.

The rest of the Delta’s followed suit.

“Nothing,” I answer honestly. They’ve tested these blindfolds out numerous times. I saw them last week trying out different ones to make sure their plan worked perfectly.

The game is simple. Twenty-five dollars to participate. Each female participant picks a random number from a bag. That number determines your date. They brought the guys in, also blindfolded, and already assigned their numbers. The Beta’s will tie our hands together, so there’s no wandering into someone else’s date, and they’ll be walking around, monitoring the entire time.

They even thought of doing an event for all sexual orientations, but we’re the guinea pigs and the first to go as a test to see if it all works out.

They chose the Delta house to hold the first event, because it has a bigger space and most of the Delta’s are taking part. We’re good sports like that. And no freshmen.

Being it’s only the second week of the semester, freshmen are not included. They get themselves in trouble too easily. One might fall in love and get their heart broken. Freshmen get clingy and need to be broken in before they’re tricked into the grandeur of love. Most of it is all a ruse. It’s a trick the boys around here play in order to get laid.

I pulled lucky number 13.

I won’t know who my date is, but I hope the number is lucky and I don’t end up with a creep. Or worse, an old hookup, even worse, an ex.

Who am I kidding? I don’t have any exes here at Drexton Hall that I actually dated, just multiple hookups I do not want to revisit. Except for a few hockey players. Those may be worth the second chance.

They’re hockey players! They spend all their free time training and conditioning. And they spend the rest of their time fucking anything with legs. So, no, I wouldn’t mind a repeat of those thick, sexy, god-like creatures in my bed.

My best friend, Hannah, has been trying to get me to slow down. Little Miss Virgin, not so much a virgin anymore after finding her true love, has been trying to set me up on dates since last semester. It’s part of the reason I stepped up for the Vice President position at my sorority. I have an excuse not to go on any dates.Oh, I’m sorry Hannah, duty calls. It’s not even like she’s here to actually push it anymore, but her nagging persistence increased once she started a family of her own.

Second reason is that I'm a senior now. I need something extra for my resume. A littleumphto make me more desirable. I can’t rely on my boobs to land myself a respectable job, no matter how far they’ve gotten me in life.

I wasn’t expecting any actual hard responsibilities with my new role, but so far, our new president has been a total screw up and we’ve only been back two weeks. It’s become my job to pick up her slack.

“You promise, no freshmen? I don’t want to break some kid's heart when I tell him to shove it. Nor do I want some eager virgin trying to jump on me.” I ask Willa, only half joking. She laughs, knowing full well I have a reputation here.

“No freshmen. All student IDs were checked before this.” She ties the first end of the cloth strap to my wrist.

We’re all lined up now like sitting ducks waiting for our match.

“You know the rules. If things get bad, or if you hate your date, you have the option to bail out. Just flag us down and we’ll remove the blindfolds and escort you both out.”

“Stay close,” I whisper, not wanting the rest of my girls to know I’m ready to bail or hear any true negativity from me. I’m already hating this.

I have to be positive and show leadership. Most importantly, it’s for a good cause. The money all goes to charity, and these girls need a strong leader to remind them of that.

This entire event has very strict rules. No names. No asking questions about appearances or any questions to try to figure out who your date is. Its purpose is to get to know your date on a deeper level.

The Beta’s really planned this well, and already have another house signed up. I’m taking mental notes for Delta's charity event. It has to be good, but I don’t think we can pull off something like this. We’re not organized enough.

“Ok ladies! Your dates are coming in,” a Beta announces, and the room quiets down with anticipation.

A few guys are talking as they’re led past me. I swear I heard Carter’s voice and immediately pray I don’t get him, but I won’t know anytime soon. Unfortunately, I’m stuck being blindfolded as long as I can stand it. I’m trying really hard to be a good sport in this, but so help me god if I get Carter, I’m out.
