He’s an arrogant asshole with a hard on for fighting. He’s a hockey player and I love the hockey players at this school, but I wouldn’t touch him if my life depended on it.

I’d suck it up. I’d play nice, stroke his ego for a little bit until enough time has passed and I can quietly end the date so none of the other Delta’s know. Or at least, will think I’ve tried.

“Hey now! Don’t be so handsy,” a deep rumble sounds. “I’m saving myself for my hot date.”

“Number 13, we’re right here. Hold out your hands.” Willa instructs him.

Our knuckles brush as Willa ties our wrists together.

“How you doin’?” He says seductively.

I can’t see a thing, but I feel him lean forward over me. He’s tall, and much bigger than me. I almost recognize that voice, but I can’t exactly place it. His hands feel big based on the feel of his knuckles against mine, so that’s a good sign. So far, so good.

There I go, immediately thinking of what he looks like. It’s against the rules, but I can’t help my head. His deep sultry voice is also not helping my dirty thoughts.

“Is that your best line?” I ask, insinuating how lame it is. He’s probably some dumb jock, but that’s eighty percent of this school.

And that’s never stopped me before.

“I’m out of my element. Usually, I go by my physical charm rather than a verbal one. Ow!” He yells out as if someone hurt him.

“No talking about appearances! I’ve warned you 13!” Willa takes no shit from these guys. I suspect she hit or pinched him for trying to break the rules.

Once secured, we’re led to another area in the house.

“Sit.” She instructs, as I feel like I’m toppling over when I try to figure out where and how to sit. “Easy does it.”

Luckily, the chairs are right under our butts waiting for us.

“Your date has officially started! If you’re brave, you can walk around. If you need anything, just shout.” Willa leans closer to me. “I’ll be right here.”

That can’t be a good sign if Willa is reassuring me she won’t be too far away.

Since Hannah got pregnant, leaving me alone and moving away with her boyfriend turned fiancé, I’ve lost my best friend. I’m happy for her, but I miss having that person I can lean on. Willa and I have gotten closer. We’re both Vice Presidents of our sororities and have come to lean on each other even more this semester. In the past two weeks, we’ve quickly become close friends.

“Do we get any shots?” The mystery man asks.

“I think you’ve both had enough before this.” Willa walks away after that.

She’s not lying about me. Her and I both did a good amount of shots together to get me amped up to do this.

My mystery man is laughing. “I only had two with the guys before we got blindfolded.” He touches my hand to let me know he’s talking to me.

“Honestly, I had more than two,” I tell him, making him laugh even more.

I know that laugh, but it could be from anywhere. Is it from class? A party? Either way, his laugh somehow comforts me more than I’d like to admit. It’s something familiar in my apprehension that the blindfold creates. Then there’s his scent. It reminds me of home, like a California breeze coming off the ocean.

“What do we talk about? They said nothing too revealing. What’s your favorite color?”

It’s my turn to laugh. “What are we in fifth grade?”

He doesn’t say anything, but I feel a tug at my hands. I’d guess he’s shrugging. He’s right. What else could we really talk about?

“Blue, but like an aquamarine blue. None of that navy, sky, or royal shit.” He laughs again at my answer, settling my nerves. “Yours?”

“Green.” Hmm, my eyes are green, but I can’t say that. “But none of that grass shit, more with a hint of gold.”

I silently laugh and think of something else we could talk about when his hand touches my wrist. The simple touch sends a little shock up my arm.
