I’ll make it right. I have to.

Fate has given us a chance. She pulled my number, and that was fate, giving us one blinded, uninhibited day to connect and show our true selves.

Chapter 4

Kandace

After two showers, I washed my sheets and blanket, and I still can’t get rid of Luca’s scent.

I searched my room for anything he left behind that could have his lingering stench on it, but came up empty. It’s permeated into the walls and floor. There’s no other way to explain why I still get whiffs of him every time the air moves.

I tossed my blindfold and cloth tie he ripped with just one powerful tug into the empty bin in my room. Just thinking about it gives me goosebumps. They don’t smell like him. I checked those.

God, it was hot when he did that. I wasn’t expecting it, and fuck, is he strong. That cloth isn’t easy to rip. And then the way he threw me around on the bed, like I was a rag doll… my whole body shivers just thinking about it.

Dammit.

This is not how I wanted my senior year to start. I prayed not to get Carter when I should’ve been begging the universe to not let me end up with Luca. As much of an asshole as Carter is, I loathe Luca Kingivson. The “King” of hockey. Ha!As if.

He’s just a self-centered, arrogantboywithzerorespect for women.

Obviously, I’m not a saint. It was my idea to go upstairs. It was my brilliant idea to stay blindfolded. But I would’ve never knowingly hooked up with that degrading jerk.

“Do we have any special floor cleaner?” I call out to the house with my head under the sink, searching through the miscellaneous bottles we have. None of them are for hardwood floors.

The rest of the Delta Nu’s are sitting around, making dinner plans and talking about the frat party they’re going to tonight, and I don’t get a response.

“I’ll just go to the store. We should have something for the wood floors,” I say to no one in particular, giving up on my search.

“Did you spill something? I think the Beta’s had some kind of cleaner they used after the event last night,” Penny answers as she breaks away from the group to wash her glass in the sink above me.

“No, there’s a stench in my room that I’m trying to get rid of,” I grumble, thinking of the manly scent of sweat and Luca’s special mix of a summer ocean breeze.

He smelled good. That was until I opened my eyes and saw the real man behind the enchanting aroma.

“Try incense,” Callie chimes in. “It always worked for me at my parent’s house.”

“Isn’t that used to help get demons out or something?” Penny asks.

“No, you’re thinking of sage,” Callie confirms.

“Yeah, where can I get sage?” I ask, needing to rid my room of the nasty demon hockey defenseman.

Callie helps me find a store not too far from town to get some sage to burn, and I immediately head out. It’s almost six already, and the store closes at eight. I want to get this shit as soon as I can and rid my room of any traces of Luca “King of the evil jerk faces” Kingivson.

As I walk out, Willa jumps off her porch next to our house.

“Kandi, wait up!” She calls out.

I see her. I hear her. I’m clearly ignoring her.

She knew. I told her I hate Luca, and she knew I was paired with him. A little warning, and we could’ve avoided this entire situation. I didn’t even know how close they were. She’s never mentioned they’re friends.

Willa’s faster than me. She’s on the hockey team and works out. I, on the other hand, stick to nightly bedroom routines to burn calories.

“Don’t ignore me.” She catches up quickly. “I didn’t tell you to sleep with him.”

Oh! She already knows! Who else knows? The entire hockey team? The entire school?
