“I picked something out for us, and it’s all on me.” I grin, loving how shocked and scared they both look. “Don’t worry, I picked out something good, and I’m getting the same thing.”

“We can’t…” Finn starts, swallowing a lump of fear in his throat, but I stop him before he can make some lame excuse.

“Both of you can and you will. For me.” I take a deep breath and let it out. “Tomorrow is my last game as a Husky. I’m not coming back next semester.”

They both react in their own way. A mix of disappointment, surprise, and understanding. Surprisingly, Finn is the first to hug me.

“Shite, I’m excited and angry,” he says, and lightly punches my arm. “Why didn’t ya tell us?”

“I just found out the other day.” I look down and kick a small rock next to my foot. “It was a possibility but never a certainty until then. I have to go train with the team, and hopefully play a few games before the playoffs.”

They know. Teams bench their starters once they clinch to give them a rest and test out any backups or new guys they have.

Alex wipes his eyes before rushing at me into a hard, squeezing hug.

“You’re going to be ok.” I hug him back. “Fuck, Captain. Don’t make me cry.”

He is making me cry. He’s had a rough few months, but he has so much heart and our team is going to rally behind him.

He finally lets me go and sniffs back his snot before standing up straight.

“Now, come on. We have one artist, and they promised me each one would be exactly the same.”

They shake their heads, but follow me inside the tattoo parlor.

“My mom is going to kill me.” Alex grunts, but that’s the last complaint I hear from him.

The artist drew up an awesome design of our team's symbol. The husky head and the letters DH on it. Of course, it has our school colors of a deep violet, black and gray.

There was some disagreement about where it was going, so I compromised and said we can have it in different spots. Mine on my chest over my heart. Alex’s on the back of his shoulder and Finn asked for the least painful spot they could give him. The artist gave him hell, but it ended up on his bicep.

Alex took it like a champ. He looked bored through it all. I knew the sap was tough.

I cried a little. One tear! Who knew the coloring would hurt so bad?

Finn cringed and cursed the entire time, and I had to hold his hand. I’ve never heard so many Irish curses before. He told me to stick something up myarsea few times. It sounded painful, but his accent is so cute when he’s angry.

“Alright, next order of business,” I say after admiring the new artwork on my chest. I can’t wait to show Kandace.

They said I’d have to wait until it’s fully healed, but I want her to lick and suck on it the way she does over my bare chest.

Speaking of Kandace, I had some time in the shop to think while I watched my best friends vow their undying love for me. I don't know when, and I don’t know how, but one day, I will ask Kandace to marry me. I have no idea what I’m doing and that’s where I need help.

Might as well get it while I’m here.

“Where to?” Alex winces as he pulls on his coat.

I lead them right next door to the jewelry store. Luckily, it’s still open, closing in thirty minutes. Picking a ring out shouldn’t take too long.

“A ring for Kandace!” I exclaim. “You’re right, I should totally marry her.”

“Whoa, we never said that.” Alex steps in and blocks me from opening the door.

“I need to sit down.” Finn groans and moves past us to go inside and take the bench by the door.

Sitting with his head between his legs. He looks even paler than usual.

Alex hands him water, and Finn pulls a protein bar out of his coat while waving us off that he’ll be ok.
