“I don’t know when I’ll ask her, but I’m in love, and it’s going to happen, eventually.” I pat Alex’s shoulder. “I need your expert love advice.”

With a sigh, he gives in, and we head to the counter to check the rings out.

Forty minutes later, and I still can’t decide. None of them look right. The shop agreed to stay open when I told them no limit on price. Then I learned how expensive rings are and decided on a reasonable amount. I’m going to be a professional hockey player. I can afford it.

My friends watch me squander my money away, making the biggest decision of my life. Some are too big, some not big enough. None of these are right.

“What about a little color?” The salesperson offers.

“Color?” Alex scoffs. “It’s an engagement ring.”

The sales woman puts her hand up to stop his argument.

“What’s her favorite color?”

“Aquamarine,” I say automatically, recalling our first blind date. She was very insistent on that color.

“Like your eyes,” the woman points out, before she turns away to another case.

I never realized it, but Kandace’s favorite color happens to be my eye color. Same like hers are mine. Can you feel the love? It’s fate.

“What’s the emergency?” Willa comes hobbling in on her crutches.

I texted her to meet us here to help when I couldn’t decide.

“Why are we in a jewelry store?” She looks around, but her eyes widen when she notices the rings laid out in front of me. “Oh, Luca. This is such a bad idea.”

“How’d you get here?” A still pale Finn moves down the bench for her, but she trudges to me, ignoring his question.

“What did these fools convince you to do?”

“Hey, now.” Alex straightens up after perusing the rings underneath the counter. I hope he’s not getting any bright ideas about his own girl. “I told him it was a bad idea.”

“Willa-bean,” I groan at her mistrust in me. “I’m just getting the ring while I have my friends here to help me. I’m not planning to ask yet.”

“Ha!” She throws her head back with a laugh just as the sales woman comes back. “There is no way you can sit with a ring burning a hole in your pocket and not ask her. I'll give it a week.”

“Two days.” Alex chimes in.

“Gala night.” Finn perks up.

That’s not a bad idea.

I turn my attention away from their negativity and take a look at the perfect ring. Square shaped that sparkles in the light with an aquamarine tint.

I grin, imagining it fitting perfectly on Kandace’s hand.

“That’s it,” I say.

“Are you sure?” Alex makes a face, but I am so sure that ring is for my Kandace.

Willa takes a look at it.

“She’ll love it,” she says with a sigh, still not believing in me. “But she’s going to say no. Don’t get your hopes up.”

I don’t care what they say. They don’t know Kandace the way I do. She may not say yes at first, but she will eventually.
