“Are you still there?” He pleads, as if I ran away.

“I’m still here. You’re stuck or more like tied to me. I’m trying to think of another question.”

We’re interrupted by a scream from the other side of the room.

“That’s it! I’m done!” A girl screams out, and not just any girl. Our Delta Nu president, Chelsea. Why is she the worst?“Get this asshole off of me. Now!”

“Ok, hold on. The knot is tightening from all the pulling.” I hear Willa trying to calm her down.

“Don’t be such a bitch. I didn’t do or say anything. Just calm down and let her untie us.”

I know that voice too. Is it…?

“Carter,” my mystery man mutters. “He’s such an ass. I bet he told her his name to gain some brownie points, and that’s why she’s flipping out.”

“No doubt. He’s a cocky asshole.”

Carter is known for expecting girls to sleep with him at a mere mention of his name or saying some other crude comments. Sometimes it actually works. It works for most of the hockey team. They don’t even have to try.

“Wait, are you close to him? Are you…” I gasp and pause for dramatics. “A hockey player?”

His laugh rumbles in his throat. “Damn, you got me, but can you guess which one?”

I can’t. Maybe he’s a transfer student? Willa promised me no freshmen and I don’t want to guess. I need to set a better example for my Delta girls since our leader just made a ridiculous scene.

“Nope. We are going to do this right! No names. No revealing anything about appearances. Are you with me?” I say it loud enough for the room to hear.

“I’m in!” My mystery man agrees with a shout, and I can’t help the little flutter in my gut.

It feels good to have someone so willing to accept your crazy quirks. With no hesitation, he shouted right along with me.

“Thank you,” Willa whispers to us as she comes past our little corner.

“Next question, what do you do for fun? Any hobbies?” He jumps right into date mode, and I’m all for it.

We discuss our hobbies. Besides hockey, he surfs and skates in the summer. I love the beach, he loves the ocean. His second love next to hockey, that is. The only sport I ever played was tee ball when I was five. Which only lasted a year.

Our favorite TV shows are next. His is The Office which is my second favorite. Mine is Brooklyn Nine-Nine, which is in his top five. We laugh and quote our favorite scenes. I’m getting to know this guy better than I know most of the girls I live with, and more than any guy I’ve ever dated.

“Can we move around?” He asks. “My ass is getting numb.”

I’m enjoying him and his bluntness. Did I need to hear that his ass is numb? No. Do I mind? Not in the least. I like someone who’s not afraid to speak their mind and doesn’t hide behind flowery words or phrases.

“My ass is getting numb, title of your sex tape.” We both joke a line from my favorite show at the same time, eliciting more laughs.

“I think the room cleared out a bit. I heard some more dates being broken up before,” I say, trying to stand up with him.

“I guess their dates aren’t going as good as ours.” He holds my hand in his.

I hate to admit it, but this is the best date I’ve ever been on. Damn those Beta’s. This event is going to be tough to match.

“Where’s Willa?” I move my head as if I can actually see anything.

“Did I say something wrong?” His voice lowers in disappointment.

“No!” I quickly shout to stop any doubts. He’s done everything right so far. “I just need water or something.”

“We can do this.” He goes into full attack mode. “Let’s feel around and use our senses to get to a kitchen. Is there even a kitchen here? They told us to meet at the Delta house. But am I in the Delta house?”
