She holds up her phone with a picture of Chelsea on it.

“I got the text thread of her lies,” Renna adds.

That’s all I need.

I’m tramping my way over to her, ignoring the stares of the hockey players as I walk past them. Leaning over the table, I plant my hand right in front of her, stopping all conversations.

Everyone’s silent, watching what I’ll do next.

Before I can speak, Carter’s little brother, Braydon’s, hand slides up my leg. I shouldn’t have chosen to lean over him, but he’s in my way. The little shit is going to get his ass in jail one day.

“Hey, Kandi. Want to join us?” He asks with a wiggle of his eyebrows.

I see Luca stand out of the corner of my eye, but I don’t need a knight in shining armor. Never have.

Braydon’s tall, and I’m able to throw an elbow right into his gut. He groans with a painful whimper as he slumps back into his seat, taking his hand off me.

“This is Delta Nu business,” I say and turn back to Chelsea.

She swallows and stares at me like a deer in headlights. That’s what she is. A poor deer caught living dangerously, about to get pummeled by me.

“Your reign is over. Consider yourself challenged.”

I say what I need to and turn away to head back to my table, ignoring the cheers and whistles as I go. I’m halfway there when I’m turned around by a tight grip on my elbow.

“Are you ok?” Luca eyes me, pulling me closer to him to let someone walk by us.

“I’m fine.” I wiggle out of his hold. “Go back to yourdate.” The words slip from my mouth before I can stop them.

I didn’t mean to say that. I don’t know why I said that. Who cares if Luca’s on a date or if he’s just hooking up with that girl? Not me.

You don’t care. It’s a good thing.

He’s moved on.

Good.

“Whoa.” He grabs my waist this time, holding me from leaving. “I’m not on a date. That’s just some girl I don’t know, who weaseled her way next to me.”

I try to hide my relief, but he sees right through me.

“Are you jealous?” He teases, knowing full well I felt atadjealous.

I’m just a tad bit jealous. Hardly. Hardly jealous.

It's a basic human instinct.

“Shut up, I’m not jealous. I’m annoyed at Chelsea, and I don’t like that girl.” I don’t even know that girl, but she looks very unlikeable. Especially when she has her hands all over Luca. Highly unlikeable.

He’s full on grinning now, with his off-kilter dimples deep in his cheeks. And he’s seeing right through me.

“I tried to get you to see Chelsea before the rest of your group did, but your gaze seemed to be focused somewhere else.” He lightly pushes me back against a wall.

“Luca.” My voice catches in my throat.

“Kandace, you can admit you’re jealous. Admit you have feelings for me,” he coaxes me to confess whatever this is I’m feeling.

Nausea is rising from my stomach, but I don’t want to vomit. I want to crash my lips on to his and feel his tongue swirling in my mouth. It’s his signature move I’ve come to know. It’s the first thing he does, as if he’s testing the waters.
