“Not even Luca,” I chime in, raising my glass to hers. “No matter how big his cock is.”

Hannah laughs. This night was supposed to be fun for her. It’s her first real night out since she had the baby. It’s been our first night out together since she moved away. We aren’t supposed to be pouting over boys and spending the night discussing Luca.

“I want to have fun and stop worrying about stalker eyes over there.” I point behind my shoulder in his direction. “Let's dance!”

“For the record,” Hannah tightens her grip on my hand, stopping me from dragging her to the dance floor. “I believe you can still reach any goal you set your heart to, even if you were in love with a hockey player.”

She doesn’t let me respond and pulls me the rest of the way to the back of the dance floor they set up in front of a stage at the end of the bar.

It’s line dancing night, which is exactly why we came here. It’s fun to line up and pretend to know what we’re doing and, in the past, get whisked away by a cowboy who knows exactly what he’s doing. Not that I’m hoping for a guy to dance with me. Hannah isn’t, and this night is for us to have fun together. But I wouldn’t mind a nice cowboy whipping me around the dance floor for a few turns.

We wore our cowboy boots we splurged on when I visited her in Texas over the summer for the occasion. But even after a few drinks, Hannah looks stiff. She was never a good dancer. Anytime she gets too close to the guy next to her, she tenses even more and shyly moves further away.

“Relax!” I take her hand. “No one is going to bother us. Your bodyguards won’t let them if they try.”

She laughs and eyes the boys that are now standing on the edge of the dance floor, watching us with their arms over their chest.

I hate to admit it, but the way they are taking this so seriously is sort of cute. I’m still pissed that Holt sent them, but it actually feels kinda nice. As if we’re celebrities, with big, muscled bodyguards protecting us.

I’ll never admit that to them.

Step, cross, step, step, slide … what?

I have no idea what I’m doing, and we look ridiculous, but Hannah is laughing with me and loosening up with every misstep we take.

The song switches and everyone around us partners up. I grab onto Hannah to be my partner as a guy walks over.

“Care for a dance?” He comes to both of us.

“I need a break,” Hannah says with a nervous shake of her head.

“You can spin me around, Cowboy.” I offer my hand to him. It’s just a dance. I don’t see the harm in it.

He gladly takes it and we’re two-stepping around the floor with me, trying not to stumble. I don’t dare look back, but I feel a certain someone’s icy glare in my direction.

“I don’t really know what I’m doing,” I laugh, shouting over the music.

“It’s ok, follow my lead.” He whispers in my ear and a chill runs down my spine.

Not a good chill. More like a chill you feel in horror movies. But it’s one dance, and I’m a good sport.

We’ve always come here for line dancing night and never go home with anyone. None of the guys expect it either. It’s just fun to dance together, and these cowboys are mostly perfect gentlemen about it.

I glance back to Hannah to make sure she’s ok, and she’s dragging Luca onto the dance floor. He’s reluctant at first, but then follows along.

“Thanks for the spin.” I try to break free once we get close to them.

“Song’s not over yet.” He holds onto my hand to pull me back.

“Nope, but she has a new partner.” Gentry comes over and quickly pulls me away to where Hannah is, trying to show Luca what to do.

Surprisingly, Gentry goes right with the flow of the other dancers circling around the floor.

“How do you know what you’re doing?” I ask over the music.

He twirls me around and pulls me back in.

“A friend taught me.” He shrugs.
