“It’s me, you, and Liam.”Oh, my sweet boy.
“Liam is going to love it,” I say to Crew.
“When is he coming home?” Crew asks.
I look at the clock on the oven. He should be home any minute.
“He should be here soon.”
After I left work, I picked up Crew from school and came across town to Liam’s place. I cooked him a big meal as a thank-you for what he did for Crew and me.
I check on the lasagna in the oven. It looks just right. Then I go over to the large salad I made and toss the ingredients together.
I hear the lock jiggle in the door.
I motion for Crew to follow me. Liam opens the door, and I gasp.
“Omg, Liam.” My palms come up to my face as I walk toward him.
An older man stands behind him. He looks identical to Liam. If it weren’t for the age difference, I’d think they were twins.
I hug Liam. “I can’t believe Carter beat you so bad.”
“I’m fine,” he assures.
“I made you a present,” Crew cuts in, and he holds up his picture to Liam with a bright smile spreading his lips.
“I love it. Thanks, buddy.” Liam bends down to hug Crew, but then he winces. “Sorry, buddy, I got hurt. It’s hard for me to move.”
“How did you drive home?” I ask.
“I didn’t,” Liam says. “My dad did. Dad, do you remember Skylar?”
“Hi, Mr. Bozeman,” I greet. Liam said he was meeting him for lunch, not having him drive him home.
“Hi there, Skylar. Call me Tim, and who’s this little guy?” he asks of Crew.
“My name is Crew,” my son says sweetly.
“Crew, I have a son about your age,” Tim says.
Crew smiles.
Liam drops his bags on the floor and tells his dad to come in to his apartment.
His dad whistles. “Nice place you got here, Son.”
“Thanks.” Liam smiles proudly.
I’m happy to see him getting along with his dad.
“I made dinner. I thought you guys would be hungry,” I say.
They all follow me to the kitchen where Crew set up the table for dinner.
I place the salad on the table and then the huge lasagna I made.
“That smells delicious,” Liam claims, and his stomach rumbles.
