“It’s Mommy’s famous lasagna,” Crew whispers to Liam, and his dad and Liam laugh.

“Do you both live here with my son?” Liam’s dad asks.

“Oh, I have my own place in Brooklyn,” I respond.

“We really need to do something about that,” Liam says, surprising me. He digs into the lasagna and moans.

We all sit around the table and eat.

“It’s time for you and Crew to move in here,” Liam declares. “I don’t want to wait a couple of months anymore.”

“Somebody is a little impatient,” I joke, trying to brush off Liam’s brashness.

“Let’s move in with Liam,” Crew says.

“Okay, let’s not get ahead of ourselves here,” I say to Crew. “I’ll talk to Liam about it later. It’s something us adults need to decide on.”

“You know I had thirteen hours in a car, and I had a lot of time to think,” Liam mentions.

I watch him curiously. I knew he got into a fight with Carter and Liam pushed Carter’s buttons enough to make him lose his shit and beat him. But seeing him all bruised and broken does something to my insides. Liam got himself so hurt because he loves me, and he loves Crew.

“How was the drive?” I ask, looking between Liam and his father.

“Oh, it was interesting,” Tim says. “We made a few stops along the way.” He winks at Liam.

“As I was saying,” Liam continues, “having time to myself on the open road was cathartic. I had a lot of time to think. It was different from traveling with the team. I liked having the quiet time to really look inward.” He’s being weird as he shovels more lasagna in his mouth.

Then he winks at Crew.

“I’m glad you enjoyed the road trip. I just wish your body wasn’t hurting you so much now. I hate to see you like this,” I say, watching him while feeling like my heart hurts from the pain he is in.

“The pain is a small price,” he says. “And I’ve had broken ribs before. It isn’t a picnic, but I’m tough.”

I frown.

Liam puts down his fork. “As Dad was saying, we made a stop along the way.” He reaches into his pants pocket and pulls out a robin’s egg blue jewelry box. He places it on the table. “Whenever I pictured this moment, it was with me on my knee, but right now, I’m hurting too much, and I don’t want to wait until I feel better.”

I gasp as tears fill my eyes.

“I kind of feel bad my mom isn’t here for this moment, but I’ll have to make it up to her at some point,” Liam says. He seems totally calm, and he has an air of contentment. “Anyway.” He blinks, and then he is laser-focused on me. “Skylar, every moment I spent looking for you was worth it. You’re it for me, baby. I love you so damn much. I know we haven’t been back together that long, but we have a lifetime to make new memories. What I do know is you’re my family, my soul, my better half. You complete me,” he declares.

I lose it at those words as tears pour down my face.

I get up from the table and kneel in front of him. “I’m kneeling for you,” I say to him as I take his hands.

“You’re it for me too, Liam. I’ve been lost without you, and having you back in my life has made me feel at peace, feel whole, feel loved.”

“I’m glad we’re on the same page,” he says. “Because I want to marry you, Skylar, and I want to adopt Crew.” I open the box, and the diamond ring inside shines bright. “Will you do me the honor of being my wife?”

I begin to bob my head profusely as words evade me. My heart feels so full. Everything is so right. “Yes. Yes. Yes,” I blurt. Then I stand and plop into Liam’s lap, and I kiss him.

He winces.

“Sorry.” I get off him quickly. “I’m so happy I forgot myself.”

“Don’t be sorry,” he says.

“And, Crew, will you be my son?” Liam asks him.
