“Always,” she replies.

We finally make it to Patty’s building and I head inside from the main doors. Patty is probably waiting for me in the parking garage. I head inside the main lobby to see Patty is already here waiting with my luggage.

“Please tell me you didn’t lift these all by yourself,” I say biting into my lower lip.

“Nope,” she says with a pop of the p. “I saw Brett, he’s a player on the team. He got everything out for me. I figured you’d be on the main floor since you need special fob access to get to the garage.”

“Okay, good,” I blow out a breath.

“So, I had a job opportunity I wanted to discuss with you,” Patty says carefully.

“I really need a job. Not only did Meagan throw me out she also fired me.”

Patty hisses. “What a bitch.”

“Tell me about it,” I reply.

“One of the players on the team is in need of a nanny for his daughter who is super adorable and amazing,” she begins to explain as I move the luggage over to wait in front of the elevator door.

“A nanny?” I repeat. “Seriously Patty can you see me being a nanny?”

“You worked with kids at the museum,” she reminds.

“That was a temp job for when the real art teachers couldn’t make it,” I explain.

“Ellie, you’re an amazing person. This little girl is so sweet. One of our players was recently injured. . .”

The elevator door opens.

A little girl with auburn hair comes running out. Behind her is an older woman who is yelling at her to come back and beside her is a man holding crutches. He looks well over six feet tall with the same auburn hair as the girl and light green eyes. He’s got a sculpted face and a jawline sharp enough to cut glass and whoa his scowl makes me take a step back.

“Syd get back here,” he calls.

“Come here young lady,” the older woman beside him shouts and moves toward the entrance door to the building. Her lips are pressed in a thin line and she looks like her patience is done.

“Connor why aren’t you in bed resting?” Patty asks him.

“Syd won’t listen to the nanny the temp agency sent,” he explains. “I have no choice.”

“I don’t blame her,” I mutter under my breath.

“Excuse me?” he snaps at me. His green eyes unrelenting and narrow.

“I don’t blame her,” I repeat. “That woman doesn’t seem very kind. I grew up with nanny’s and they’re all not created equal. I could tell you some horror stories,” I snicker awkwardly.

That’s when I put two and two together. This must be the player Patty was talking about. He seems like a real ass.

“You think you could do better?” he challenges me.

I narrow my eyes at him. “Watch me.” Game on good looking asshole.

“I need to get her to the bus on time. I can’t drive her to school myself,” he explains.

“Connor you really shouldn’t be walking around yet,” Patty says to him.

“I’m already at risk of being put on long term leave,” he huffs. “What else do I have to loose?”

That’s all the conversation I hear as I walk over to the adorable little girl. She’s holding her teddy bear tight and she’s hiding behind a plant in the main lobby. I decide to take a seat on the floor beside her. For some reason I remember being young and having all kinds of nanny’s some of them really liked to assert their power and size was a big way for them to do it.
