“Coach,” Evan says. “Maybe we should take this somewhere else. We have an audience.” When I look around, I see a bunch of people watching us.

“Myles, what’s going on?” Uncle Oli asks, looking flustered. He sees Daddy pinning Andrew to a wall and me crying.

“I’m taking Patty away from all this,” Evan declares. He doesn’t ask when he sweeps me off my feet.

“Thanks, Evan,” Mom says.

“There’s an empty hall here next door. Myles, Andrew, and Oli in there now,” Mom orders, and I love how she takes charge of the situation.

“This is a bad idea,” I say to Mom.

Mom reaches out and touches my arm. “Whatever happened, sweetheart, know your family will always have your back.”

I blink. “It’s bad.”

“It’s okay,” Mom assures. “Take her somewhere private,” she urges Evan.

He nods and then he whisks me away toward the elevators. This clusterfuck is worse than I thought.

I place my head on Evan’s shoulder and cry into the fabric of his tuxedo. “You’re okay,” he soothes.

“Everyone is going to know what happened,” I groan. “I’m so embarrassed.”

“You have nothing to be embarrassed about. It’s Andrew fucking McNab who should be embarrassed.”

“I can’t believe you punched him.”

“After what he did to you, it felt good, but I should’ve gotten more hits in,” he growls. “The guy is a big ass. Does he think he can just apologize after all these years and it’s going to be all right?”

“I don’t know what that man thinks,” I sigh.

We head up to our floor. And Evan walks me to my room.

“I’ll order up some tea for you,” he says once he places me on my feet and ensures I am steady.

“I’m okay,” I assure.

“Don’t pull that with me. I can see you’re hurting,” he states and my fountain of tears starts up again.

“He’s going to tell my parents and uncle about our relationship, about the baby, this is a disaster,” I wail.

“It’s not. Your parents love and support you. This is a good thing.”

“How can you say that? My parents will be devastated,” I cry.

“Only because they weren’t there for you. They want to be there to love and support you. They are probably hurt you didn’t come to them when it all went down,” he offers.

“Don’t you think I know that? But I felt terrible about falling for Daddy’s teammate. If anyone would have found out back then, there would have been a big fallout.”

“You’ve carried this secret long enough. It’s dictated your life. Now that it’s out there you can let the past go and move on,” Evan explains.

“I need to get out of this dress,” I decide because I feel like I can’t breathe.

I dig through my suitcase for a pair of pajamas and head into the bathroom to change. When I look in the mirror, my makeup is all smudged, so I wash my face with cleanser.

When I get out of the bathroom, Evan’s phone rings. It’s Dad.

“Hello, sir,” Evan answers and puts him on speaker.
