That’s Nana’s way of reminding me she has a security detail on us.

We arrive to Central Park.

“Sydney, would you like to take a ride on a horse-drawn carriage?” Sybil asks.

Syd nods and smiles.

“That sounds like so much fun,” I say, trying to add some cheer.

“I’ll go and see if they have a carriage available,” Sybil says.

Syd whispers in my ear if she can go peek at the Central Park Zoo.

I tell her to stay close but I give her some room to explore on her own, keeping my eyes always on her.

“She’s a sweet kid,” Warren says when we are alone.

“She is,” I agree.

“You seem familiar,” he says.

I snicker. “I don’t think we run in the same circles.”

“Right,” he says with a weird grin. “You are a very beautiful woman, Ellie.”

My body instantly stiffens. Is he joking?

“Aren’t you and Sybil getting married?” I ask.

Hint, when you are marrying someone, you don’t go and compliment other women.

“Come on,” he says. His hand comes up and he caresses my shoulder with his finger. “I’ve got a lot to offer a girl like you.”

“Excuse me?” I ask as a shiver runs down my spine. I want to cringe, but I don’t because I know our security detail is probably taking pictures.

“I’m a very rich man. There’s nothing wrong if we have some fun together. I could make it worth your while.” He grins crookedly with a slimy tone. It takes everything in me not to sock him in the balls.

“I’m not that kind of girl, Warren.” My tone is stone cold.

“Come on. Why did Connor hire such a beautiful woman to take care of his child?” he says like he’s stating the obvious.

“Because I’m good with his daughter,” I bite back.

“You’re feisty. I love the red hair,” he chuckles, amused.

“Get your hands off me. In no scenario is this ending well for you,” I tell him.

“A girl like you shouldn’t threaten a man like me,” he warns, but instead of looking pissed he looks turned on.

“I’m a woman, Warren. A woman you wouldn’t be able to handle because you are a sleazebag and not good enough for me. I know your type. I’ve run far, far away from your type.” He obviously doesn’t know what I mean but I am reminded of my brothers’ friends, even men my father’s age, who think because they are wealthy, they can do what they want. I cringe as I remember the real reason I walked away from my family. “Now take your paws off me and back away,” I say as I sidestep my way around him. I don’t bother to see the look on his face.

I just keep on watching Syd and I think of Connor. His loving heart, his goodness. Everything he does is to make Syd happy. He’s a kind man and I am so attracted to him.

“They have an opening in twenty minutes,” Sybil says from behind me.

When I turn around, she is holding Warren’s hand and smiling.

“That’s great,” I say.
