The fact that he doesn’t know I am ‘G.’

Now isn’t the time to bring all that up.

We have other shit to deal with.

Life-and-death shit, so our emotional drama can wait.

Hurricane sends a whistle through the clubhouse, gaining everyone’s attention. “Church, now…” he states, and I exhale, continuing to the bar. “Maxxy, you too.”

My eyes bug out of my head as I turn. “Me?” I ask, pointing with my good hand to my chest.

Hurricane chuckles. “Is ya name Maxxy?” he replies sarcastically.

I roll my eyes and start walking toward the Chapel. “You’re a smart-ass,” I throw back at him.

“Then don’t ask stupid questions. C’mon, we even have a chair for you.”

“Jeez, anyone would think I’m royalty with all this special treatment,” I chime, walking in and seeing the seat next to Hoodoo. I smile and carefully sit. He instantly wraps his arm around me as the other brothers all take their positions around the Plexiglass table.

“Youareroyalty around here, kitten,” Hoodoo whispers against my ear.

I lean into his side as Hurricane bangs his gavel quite hard. “All right. We all know why we’re here. This time last week, we almost lost one of our own… we know who, we know why. Now, we have to damn well seek recompense.”

“We have a good relationship with Cain, Pres. Does this mean we’re going after him too? Are we going after the Bachelors as a total entity? Because I’m not so sure I feel right about that. This doesn’t feel like a Bachelors’ hit. It feels like it was off-book as if it was done purely by Selene and Trap. If it was the Bachelors, it would have been cleaner, and there wouldn’t have been a trace,” Hoodoo suggests.

Hurricane tilts his head to the side. “Agreed! This wasn’t a Bachelors’ sanctioned hit, and if I am honest, takin’ on an organization like the Baton Rouge Bachelors isn’t somethin’ on my to-do list. I don’t know if we have the resources to deal with them without callin’ in a lot of favors. Their reach is too fuckin’ deep into too many avenues that can bite us in the ass.”

“So… where does that leave us?” Bayou asks.

“We call Cain direct. Tell him what happened. Tell him we need our pound of flesh for our alliance with them to continue,” City suggests.

Hurricane shrugs. “Thoughts?” he asks, and we all nod.

“Do it,” Hoodoo is the first to speak. “If we can initiate a trade, our continued business for Selene, then let’s do that.”

Hurricane shifts his gaze to me. “You good with this, Maxxy?”

“I need her dead. I don’t care how we do it, I just need it fucking done,” I reply.

Hoodoo gently squeezes my good hand in support, and Hurricane dips his chin. “All right, it’s settled,” he announces. Grabbing his cell, he starts dialing. He puts the phone on speaker, and not long later, Cain answers, “Hurricane, how are you doing?”

“I’ve been better. How you doin’?” Hurricane asks.

Cain snorts. “I’ve been better.”

Hurricane raises his brow. “So, I take it you’ve heard then?”

Cain hums down the line. “Ahh… I don’t know if you’ve heard, but I’m on the outs with the Bachelors. So whatever I’m supposed to have heard, I assure you, I haven’t.”

We all glance around the room at each other, and Hurricane sits taller. “Why the fuck are you on the outs when you’re second-in-charge?”

“Let’s just say I don’t agree with how they treat people, especially those I care about. So I’m out. Sorry if that fucks up any deals you had in progress, but I am sure Trap can take over liaisons with you. I know he’ll happily take my spot as second-in-charge.”

I snort out my disapproval.

Hurricane grunts. “We won’t liaise with that prick. His wife tried to kill one of our own… that’s why we’re callin’ you. We wanted to know if we could barter for her?”

Cain chuckles. “For Selene? Honestly, just have at her. She’s more trouble than she’s worth. But a word of advice… don’t grab her on Bachelor turf. That will start a war… one youwon’twin. She has minions around her, but if you can get her while she is surrounded only by them and not on Bachelor-sanctioned property, you won’t incite a war. They’ll mark it down to vengeance, and that’ll be that. They won’t come after you unless they see you provoking them directly. If you go after Selene and just her people, but don’t come after the Bachelors, they will let you be.”
