We now need to carry out the task.

“All right, everyone. It’s go-time. Jesse, you know what you need to do?” Hurricane asks.

Jesse steps forward, nodding. “Sure do, Pres. Go in, get Selene on her own, and bring her out into the back alley.”

“We’ll be on comms, so you run into any interference, you give the signal, and we’ll come inside. There’s a mass of civilians in there. We want her out here before we make any attempt at takin’ her,” Hurricane states.

“You feel out of your depth at any time, prospect, you let us know,” City tells him.

I step forward, knowing they told me to keep back, but Jesse is in over his head, so I need to prepare him. “If she tells you she’s taking you back to a hotel… you’ve been made. Get the hell outta there.”

Everyone looks at me like they’re confused, so I clarify, “Selene is many things, but a cheater isn’t one of them. She will openly flirt, but she will never fuck another guy. If she offers to take you back to fuck you, Jesse, you’ve been made, and she will send her men to kill you.”

He cranes his neck to the side like he’s uncomfortable. “Great, just great.”

“We can hear you, prospect, and we’re only seconds away if shit starts to turn. We got your back, don’t worry,” Raid tells him.

Hoodoo slaps Jesse’s shoulder and nods. “All you have to do is tell her that you have intel that can get her Maxxy. That little tidbit should be enticing enough to get her to follow you.”

“And if her men come too?” Jesse asks.

“We’ll be waiting,” Hoodoo states.

As it hits me, a slow smile crosses my face—this could really be happening. We couldfinallytake Selene down. All I can do is hope this pans out how we want it to.

“Pres,” I ask as Jesse heads toward the entrance.

“Yeah?” Hurricane turns to look at me.

“I need to be here when Selene comes out. Can we make sure that happens?”

Hoodoo furrows his brow, shaking his head. “You’re still in a sling. Your leg is healing. I think you need to be as far away from this bitch as possible. You can stand back. I don’t want you near her.”

“Hoodoo, stop! I need this.”

Jesse jogs back to us, obviously hearing our bickering. “Can we figure this shit out later? We’re here. We’re going to get caught out if we don’t act now,” Jesse growls out his annoyance.

Hurricane sits forward. “The prospect’s right. We gotta move forward. Maxxy, you have to calm yourself down. Hoodoo, you gotta give her some space to see this through. If we don’t pull our shit together as a club, this is all gonna turn to mud.”

I glance at Hoodoo, who narrows his eyes on me, his nostrils flaring, but he nods. “All right… Jesse, get your ass inside and bring this bitch out here.”

Jesse’s eyes shoot to me, a slight grin on his lips as he nods, then takes off for the club’s entrance. Raid put a camera inside a pin on his casual shirt. He’s not wearing his club colors, so there is no association with the club.

The footage is being sent to a tablet as we all crowd around Raid and watch.

Jesse enters the venue through the back alley. The streetlights are dimly lit, but the music is pumping so loud that the bass vibration is pulsing through me, even out on the street. He passes through the door, stepping inside the club to the heavy bass thumping through the air. The sound is blaring, messing with the audio a little.

The room is dark, while green and pink neon lights strobe, making it hard to see clearly. As he walks past what looks like a cloakroom, he peeks inside, where coats and other shit are hanging haphazardly. Then he moves them from side to side, checking to see if there is anything of concern, like guns or anything else we need to be concerned about.

But the coast is clear.

He turns, reaching the front of the long black marble bar. Behind the bar, the wall is mirrored with rows of glass shelves, expensive-looking alcohol, and a neon strip of blue light. This place is totally pumping, and I have to admit, it is one hundred percent the kind of place I can imagine Selene hanging out.

Jesse turns, leaning his back against the bar, looking out at the throngs of people as Raid talks in his ear, “You see her?”

Jesse subtly brings his wrist to his mouth, pretending to rub his chin. “Nothing yet, but I do see what looks like some Bachelors over by the sofa area.”

I lean into Raid’s comms, taking over. “Jesse, unbutton a couple of your top buttons and start a fight with some random guy.”
