“You don’t have to like it. You just have to support me.”

He leans forward, pressing his lips to mine. That all-too-familiar tingle shoots through me, and I can’t help but smile against his mouth. He pulls back, his forehead resting against mine. “I apologize for calling you a bitch.”

I let out a small laugh. “Why? I am one.”

He chuckles. “Yeah, but I didn’t need to say it in front of everyone.”

“Don’t go soft on me now, old man. This is what we do. We bicker, we banter. It’s who we are. If you didn’t yell at me, I’d know we were falling apart.”

He leans in, kissing me again. “I love you, Maxxy.”

“I love you, Nico,” I reply, and he jerks his head back, narrowing his eyes on me.

“You’ve never called me by my name before.”

‘N’ is for Nico.

And I have finally figured out that it’s okay for me to love ‘N’ and Hoodoo at the same time because it just means that I love every part of him.

I should tell him.

Now would be the right time.

But I don’t want to distract him from the fight ahead. And he hasn’t brought up his letter to me, so I know he’s not ready to talk about it yet.

It can wait because I don’t want anything to burst this bubble.

“It’s a great name, and I just want you to know I love every part of you.”

“Careful, you’re showing your softer side.”

I snort. “Pfft. I don’t have a softer side. I’m as hard as nails,” I reply cockily, then use my good hand to punch him in the ribs.

He lets out a puff of air and chuckles as I walk off from him. “I’m gonna Old Lady you one day, you know that?” he says, jogging up to catch me and sliding his arm around my shoulders.

I cuddle into his side and smile. “And I might just let you.”

Three Days Later

Raid found a location.

Apparently, Selene and Trap, frequent a club in downtown Baton Rouge, and thankfully it isn’t Bachelor turf. It’s a haunt they go to, to side hustle with her minions and do shady deals out in the alley more often than not, according to the CCTV.

So we made a plan, at least the guys have. I, on the other hand, have been instructed to hang back out of the way like agood little girland wait for them to grab Selene. Honestly, the idea of me sitting back and doing nothing irritates the hell out of me.

The fact they’re all treating me like a child pisses me the fuck off.

I want to be able to get out there and fight.

I want to be the one showing Selene who she messed with. That I’m not that scared little inmate she protected all those years ago.

But with my sore shoulder and banged-up leg, I must admit it would be hard to do. And I know Hoodoo is worried about me. The last thing I want is to have his mind not on the task at hand and for him to get injured or worse in the fight because of me.

So I will remain back and do as I am told.

We’ve made our way down to Baton Rouge, ready for the hunt, and Hurricane stands in front of us all as we assemble at the end of the street.

We know what we’re here to do.
