I know I do.

The problem is… I’m just not sure howhefeels.

Hell, I’m not really sure howIfeel.

My mind is conflicted.

Being at the hospital and taking care of him these past few days, my mind has been solely on him.

But there’s ‘N’ to think about in this.

A man I have been neglecting.

I haven’t even written to thank him for my Christmas presents. He’s going to think I’m a bitch for ghosting him like that. But if I tell him a friend has been sick, he should understand.

Right?

Making my way to the bar, Jaz bartends and wipes down the counter. She spots me, smiling wide as I approach. “Hey, Maxxy. Bet you’re glad to be away from that stinky hospital?”

I raise my brow. “Stinky?”

She chuckles. “It smells like antiseptic and old people.”

Tilting my head, I nod. She’s not wrong.“Yeah, it kinda did, didn’t it?”

“Gimme the smell of this place any day.”

I groan. “What? Beer, leather, and burnouts?”

Jaz laughs as I grab a stool and take a seat. “Smells like home.”

“Must be nice, fitting in here?”

Jaz stops wiping down the bar, then looks at me. “You fit in here too, Maxxy. The guys adore you. They’d drop everything for you. Surely you know that?”

“Yeah… I suppose.” I sigh.

Jaz slams her hand on the bar, which has me jerking my head up at her. “Maxxy, you listen, and you listen good. Don’t ever doubt your place here. Hell, I’ve only been here a short while, and I know how important you are. You’ve been part of this club for years. You’re a strong, aggressive woman who takes no shit. Don’t let doubt creep in. You’re fearless, Maxxy. Keep showing that side of you.”

I sit up taller and clear my throat. “In that case, Jaz. I’ll have a bourbon, neat.”

“That’s my girl.” She winks at me as everyone filters noisily into the clubroom.

Jaz slides the glass along the bar, and I sit back as the club members step inside and start mingling around the room, completely happy to have their medic, but more importantly, their brother back.

Family.

This club is all about family.

A slow smile crosses my lips as I watch Hoodoo being passed around from one brother to the next. All of them are more than happy to see him back in working order.

We nearly lost him.

Inearly lost him.

And I think we’re all taking stock of that.

Spinning on my stool, I turn back to face Jaz, pick up my drink, and take a long sip. “I think it’s gonna be a long night, Jaz.”
