Shrugging it off, Hurricane steps over and talks to him quietly, but my attention is taken by Maxxy walking into the clubhouse. She’s wearing her typical white tank top, ripped jeans with her tattooed arms on display, but somehow she looks sexier tonight. Maybe it’s the red lipstick she is wearing.Fucked if I know. The only thing I do know is my cock appreciates herverymuch.

Her eyes light up as she sees me sitting back and doing nothing. I chuckle as she strides over and slumps into the seat beside me, lifting her combat boots onto the opposite seat. “Glad to see you’re taking it easy like the doctor ordered.”

“I haven’t been able to even lift my beer without someone trying to do it for me,” I jest.

She chuckles, nodding her head matter-of-factly. “Good. That’s what I like to hear. Hope you’re eating right too?”

I can still taste the layer of oil on my tongue from the deep-fried chicken and fries Lani made me, but I decide to lie. More to keep Maxxy happy than anything. “Yes, ma’am. Had grilled fish and salad for supper.”

She raises her brow with a giant smirk. “Liar. But thank you for trying to not make me worry about you.”

I nudge into her side playfully. “You don’t have to worry about me, Max… I’m doing okay.”

She weakly smiles, then turns, glancing at Hurricane and Grit. “What’s the deal there?”

My eyes shift to my president and our newest patched member, and I inhale, wondering what they could be in such a deep discussion about. It seems intense, but I have no idea what it is that Grit could be talking to Hurricane about. He’s not the tech guy, so he won’t have any intel. Besides the prospect, Jesse, he’s the lowest rank, so he can’t make any decisions. I can’t figure out what they could be so focused on without having the rest of the brothers there to talk it through.

I turn, glancing across the table to look at Bayou and raise my chin at him. “You know what’s going on over there?”

Bayou shifts his gaze away from Novah, narrowing his eyes on the pair, and lets out a harrumph. “Hmm… that’s fucking weird.”

Maxxy nods with a smile. “Right? Unless something is wrong with Lani…”

We all turn to look at Novah, and she shrugs. “Don’t look at me. I haven’t heard anything. As far as I know, her recovery is going well… she’s good, great even.”

Bayou chuckles. “Grit’s probably knocked her up.”

We all widen our eyes at the thought. “Nah, can’t be. Hurricane would have smacked him out for knocking her up,” I reply, and everyone laughs.

“Ain’t that the truth?” Novah snickers.

“I wonder if her recovery has taken a setback?” Maxxy asks.

“God, I hope not,” Novah almost whispers.

Hurricane stands and clears his throat, gaining our attention.

“Everyone, I need y’all to stop what you’re doin’ and listen up,” Hurricane demands.

“I think we’re about to find out,” I murmur, then spin around to face my president and Grit, who still looks pale.

“Lani! Kaia, get your asses out here,” Hurricane yells toward the kitchen.

I smirk as Kaia screams back, “Fuck off, we’re busy.”

We all chuckle as Hurricane groans loudly. “Woman,I swear to God.This is important club business. I need youbothout ’ere. So get out ’ere, fuckin’ now!”

Thunderous footsteps thump from the kitchen as Kaia rushes out toward Hurricane, her finger pointed directly at him. Lani slowly follows behind her at a much calmer rate. We all try to hold in our laughter as Kaia walks up to Hurricane, ready to unleash, but he reaches out and grabs her wrist, pulling her to him. “Not now! Take your frustrations out with me in the bedroom later. Grit has somethin’ he needs to do.”

Hurricane steps to the side, allowing Lani to make her way up to Grit. Her brows furrow in confusion as he smiles so wide, seeming calmer for seeing her.

He reaches out, taking Lani’s hands in his and lets out a long breath like he had been holding it in.

“Grit… what’s going on?” Lani asks.

He smiles, looking into her eyes like she’s the only thing that keeps his heart beating. These two have been through so much together, and honestly, they make me believe that true love is possible. “Lani, you’re the bravest, strongest, most resilient woman I have ever known. You live every day with battles. I know how you struggle, but youneverlet it beat you down…” Lani smiles, biting her bottom lip. “Your smile… fuck, your smile lights me the fuck up inside. I’ve never met anyone like you. I swear the day Hurricane sent me to pick you up from your house was the best moment of my entire life. I think I fell for you the second I laid eyes on you.” He shakes his head, exhaling. “I’m so in love with you that it should make me weak. It should make me crumble. But because of whoyouare, Lani, and because ofyourstrength, my love for you only makes me better.Youmake me better.”

Lani’s eyes flood with tears, one overflowing and sliding down her cheek. Grit raises his thumb and caresses her cheek, gently wiping away the salt water. “I’m so in love with you too.”
