I took my little brother in my arms and held him close to my chest. As I looked around, I saw a group of people gathered around a small firepit at the edge of the property. The flames danced and flickered in the darkness, casting a warm glow around the area.

That was something else Theo and I had requested. The fire held a lot of meaning for us. We wanted our reception to be fun for all.

Theo approached and took my brother’s tiny little hand. The baby immediately wrapped his fingers around Theo’s. “You look good holding a baby,” he said with a grin.

“I’m just hoping he doesn’t spit up on my dress.”

“Your father is over there making connections,” he said, laughing.

“I’m sorry,” I groaned.

“Don’t be.” He smiled. “He’s enjoying himself.”

My parents left early as well as some of the older guests. As the night went on, the drinks flowed more freely, and the dancing became wilder. I found myself gravitating toward the firepit, watching the flames flicker and dance in front of me.

Nora and her husband were relaxing with drinks. Nora looked up and smiled. “It’s a great reception,” she said. “It’s actually very fun.”

“That’s the idea,” I said, smiling. “We wanted people to have fun.”

“When do you guys leave?” she asked.

“Tomorrow afternoon,” I said. “I cannot wait for the honeymoon.”

Nora looked at me coyly. “Oh, girl. You’re in for a treat.”

I giggled, feeling my cheeks flush. “I hope so.”

Theo appeared beside me, his hand slipping around my waist. “Hey, ladies,” he said with a grin.

“Hey, yourself,” Nora said, winking at me before walking away with her husband.

Theo leaned down to whisper in my ear. “You’re glowing tonight, Mrs. Ashford.”

I turned to him, taking in the sight of his handsome face. “And you look quite dashing, Mr. Ashford.”

He chuckled, leaning in to kiss me. “Are we allowed to leave yet?”

I looked back to where the party was slowly dying down.

“I think we can make a subtle exit,” I replied, feeling a thrill of excitement at the thought of being alone with him.

Theo grinned, took my hand, and led me away from the fire and toward the waiting limousine.

“Shouldn’t we tell people we’re leaving?” I giggled.

“We’re married. It’s our wedding night. I don’t think anyone is going to wonder where we got off to. We stayed long enough. We cut cake, made toasts, and danced with everyone. It’s time for us to go now.” He opened the door of the limousine for me.

I got in and Theo followed, closing the door behind him. The car was luxurious and spacious, with a bottle of champagne and two glasses already waiting for us. Theo poured us each a glass and raised his in a toast.

“To a lifetime of happiness, Mrs. Ashford,” he said, clinking his glass against mine.

“To a lifetime of happiness, Mr. Ashford,” I echoed and took a sip of the champagne.

Theo leaned in and kissed me deeply, his hands sliding down to my waist. A shiver ran down my spine as his lips moved against mine. His touch was electric and I couldn’t get enough of him. I pulled away, gasping for breath and looking at him with a devilish grin.

“Are you sure we should be doing this?” I teased, running my fingers through his hair.

Theo’s eyes darkened with desire as he pulled me closer to him. “I’ve been waiting for this moment all night,” he growled, then crushed his lips against mine once more.
