And then, in a gentle and unexpected gesture, he leaned in and kissed me softly.

The kiss was sweet and tender. It was a kiss that spoke of unspoken feelings, of a desire for something more than duty and obligation.

I couldn’t help but chuckle as he pulled away, his eyes locking with mine. “Goodnight, Theo.”

“Goodnight, Emilie,” he replied, his voice soft and filled with warmth.

As I closed the door to my room, I couldn’t help but reflect on the day we had shared. I knew there were still some things to work out, but it felt like there was hope. I felt like there was a chance this duty and love thing could work out.

As I settled into my room, I couldn’t deny the feelings that had awakened within me. Theo had opened a door that led to a future filled with possibilities and uncertainties. It was a future that I had once been reluctant to embrace, but one that now held a glimmer of hope and promise.

As I lay in my bed, my thoughts drifted to the sweet kiss. I liked kissing him. I was looking forward to more kisses.

With a smile on my face, I closed my eyes, ready to face whatever challenges the future held, knowing that I was not alone in this journey.

Theo was not a man I had envisioned myself falling for. I never imagined I would ever fall for a man, but I was glad it was him.

There was something about him that made me feel like I could trust him. He had trustworthy eyes. He was incredibly patient. Any man who could tolerate me constantly pushing him away was worth keeping around. He had a lot to offer.

THEO

Our last day in Scotland had arrived, and I was determined to make the most of it. Emilie and I had come to some kind of understanding. I knew she was still a little nervous about falling in love with me. That meant I had to charm her. I needed to let her know it was okay to let down the walls. I wasn’t going to hurt her. She and I could be great partners.

I got lost, as I always did, but finally found Emilie in the living room. “Hey, do you want to do some tourist stuff. Is that allowed?”

She smiled. “I think it is allowed. What did you have in mind?”

“The National Museum of Scotland,” I said. I pulled up the site on my phone. “It’s a place filled with history and culture.”

She laughed. “I think that’s what museums are supposed to be.”

“Then you want to go?”

“Sure,” she said, shrugging. “What about Jack and Astrid?”

“Jack was hoping he could take Astrid for a picnic,” I said, grinning.

“He must have picked up some of your romantic notions,” she replied.

“He’s totally stealing all my moves.”

The driver took us to the museum. As we wandered through the exhibits, we marveled at the artifacts and stories that had shaped the nation. “You know, in America, there are lots of movies about Scottish history.”

“I don’t live under a rock,” she said, grinning. “We get the same movies here.”

“Braveheart?” I asked.

“Ew.”

I quietly laughed and continued to make our way around the museum.

“Did you know that the Vikings had a significant influence on both our countries?” Emilie asked, her eyes bright with excitement.

I nodded, genuinely intrigued. “I’ve heard of the Viking era, but I’d love to hear more about it from you, my little shield maiden.”

“If you have some weird fantasy of me wearing some ancient Viking dress, you need to get that out of your head,” she said with a laugh.
