Now I’ll show you.

I’ll remind you that you’re mine.

I’ll tell everyone what a dirty little whore you are and then I’ll steal you away so no one else can corrupt you again.

I’m coming for you, little bird.

“Rue?” Alisha’s voice behind him had him turning around in a flash. Rueben had to suppress the urge to hide the note behind him. Even though he wanted to protect her from the vile message, he had to tell her about it.

Without saying a word he held it out to her to read, not giving it over because she wasn’t wearing gloves. Watching her bright face fall, the tears building, was breaking him but he needed to be strong for her.

“It’s okay, baby. I’m going to handle it.”

Her large, tear-filled eyes looked up at him. “How, Daddy?” Her voice broke on the last word, but she swallowed down her tears, bit down on her lip and rolled her shoulders before taking a deep breath.

“We have to go see Detective Forrester don’t we?”

“Yeah, sweet girl. I think it’s time.”

And his brave, brave girl nodded her agreement and squared her shoulders before turning back toward the station.

Alisha was worried about her career and how having her lifestyle and their relationship exposed would affect it. She’d worked long and hard to build her reputation and didn’t want to lose all her momentum.

Her slumped shoulders broke Rueben’s heart and all he wanted to do was wrap her in his arms and give her a cuddle, but he couldn’t even hold her hand inside the station. Not until they reported their relationship to the proper people.

They stepped up to Detective Forrester’s door and Alisha lifted her hand to knock.

Rueben grabbed her arm to stop her, causing her to look at him in question.

“Sweetness, no matter what happens, you will always have me and Adam. We’ll figure this out.”

Alisha looked around to double check they were alone before answering.

“I know, Daddy.”

She took a deep breath before turning back and knocking on the door.

“Come,” a deep voice called from inside.

It endedup not being quite as bad as Alisha had thought it would be. They were screwed, but at least they weren’t kicked out of the force. As someone who was already part of the lifestyle, Detective Forrester’s biggest issue was making sure she was safe and protected. He had promised to talk to their captain on their behalf.

His only worry was that they would probably be split up as partners, and one of them would more than likely be forced to transfer out of the Robbery-Homicide Department.

And that was Alisha’s biggest fear. She enjoyed working with Rueben. He was an excellent partner, no matter how much grief she might have given him from the start. However, as much as she would miss working with him day in and day out–especially now that their relationship had developed into something more–she did not want to start over in a whole new department. And history showed that it was normally the female officer who was moved out.

Rueben had promised her he wouldn’t allow that, but that’s not what she wanted either. She wanted them both to have the dream. He tried to remind her that being a detective wasn’t the dream for him, but she still worried it would mess up his chances for his own promotion.

It was everything she’d ever worked for .

The rest of their shift went off without a hitch. Detective Forrester had tried to convince her that she should take the day off, but she wouldn’t have it. No way was she going to show any kind of weakness on top of everything else. Rueben had grumbled, but they’d agreed that at work, he could not pull his Daddy Dom tendencies out unless he felt her health was directly being affected.

As there was no immediate threat from her stalker toward her, they’d eventually agreed to carry on as normal.

They followed up on a few more leads for the case they were working on… all of them dead ends and were called in to assist on a small breaking and entering that ended up being a drunk husband who lost his keys and tried to sneak into his house in the middle of the work day.

They left him to sleep it off on his couch, after listening to him blubber about how he would tell his wife that he’d lost his jobandspent the last of his paycheck on a sure thing that ended up blowing up in his face.

Poor man. He was in for it.
