“Doctor!” Alisha exclaimed, jumping from her chair. “Do you have any news for us?”

“Ms. Warren, Mr. Grey,” the doctor greeted his two partners. “I’m sorry, but no. All our recent tests show no further swelling or bruising. For all intents and purposes, his body is healed.”

“Why isn’t he waking up?” Rueben asked, his tone worried.

Adam wanted to reach out and pull him in for a cuddle and would have let out a frustrated huff if he had been able to.

“Adam has suffered a very traumatic brain injury. The brain is miraculous, but even after hundreds of years of study, we still don’t fully understand it. All I can say is you need to be patient. We still believe Adam will make a full recovery and is likely to wake up any day now.”

Adam raged inside. He wanted to shout at them and make them realize he was right there. He needed to tell them he loved them and would forever be with them if they would have him. And he was desperate to know what happened to the asshole who had attacked him and held him captive.

The doctor left the room again, but before Alisha could carry on reading her story to him, the stupid, dreaded darkness claimed him again.

There wasa soft shape curled up against him. It smelled exactly like the sweetest girl in the world.

Her head was resting on his chest, and her arm wrapped around his waist, holding him tightly. Adam reached up and held onto her arm and gave it a squeeze. His body jostled with the sudden movement of the small woman plastered against him.

“Adam?” she cried out, shock lacing her tone.

“Not so loud, Ali girl. You’ll wake the dead.”

Adam’s eyes flew open in shock when the words actually made it out of his mouth. Then promptly shut them again when the bright lights of the hospital room blinded him.

“Ugh. Will someone turn down the lights, please?” he begged and was quickly rewarded by the dimming lights.

Slowly he blinked and opened his lids again, letting the room around him come into focus. Alisha was sitting up next to him, her hand resting on his chest, her large blue eyes filled with tears. Behind her stood their Daddy. His one hand rested on Alisha’s shoulder, the other holding on to Adam’s leg.

“Hi,” he whispered to them, suddenly feeling shy.

“Holy shit!” Alisha cried out again, throwing herself down on him, enveloping him in a huge hug. “Holy shit! Addy! You’re awake.”

“You might want to watch that language there, little miss, or Daddy will have to tan your hide,” Adam warned, training his gaze on the large man behind them. “Hi, Daddy. Miss me?”

He was rewarded with the most stunning smile, Rueben’s face alight with pleasure.

“You have no idea, cheeky boy. You gave us quite the scare.”

“I know, I’m sorry,” Adam responded. “I could hear you. Both of you. I’m sorry I didn’t wake up sooner. I wanted to. I needed to. There is so much that I need to tell you.”

Rueben finally moved in closer, grabbing hold of his hand. “That’s fine. We’ve got time. All the time in the world.”

Adam shook his head vehemently. “No. Not for this. I need to say this right now.”

Alisha sat back up so quickly that Adam was terrified she might fly right off the bed, but he should have known better. Rueben quickly steadied her before looking back at Adam.

Their sweet girl looked terrified, and Adam recalled how she worried that he would blame her for what happened.

“First off, none of this was your fault. He was crazy. Absolutely bonkers,” Adam insisted, keeping his eyes trained on her. “Secondly, there’s something I’ve been meaning to tell you.” He moved his gaze between the two of them. “Both of you.”

“Go ahead, Addy,” Alisha said, her voice shaking with the tears she was barely holding at bay.

“I love you. Both of you. More than any words can adequately describe. Without you, my life is fulfilled. I am content. But with you, I’m complete.”

Alisha lost her battle with the tears as huge drops landed on his hand. She carefully moved forward before placing a quick, chaste kiss on his lips.

“I love you too, Addy. So very much.”

She pulled away and looked up at the large man behind her. Adam followed her lead and looked at his Daddy, his heart in his chest.
