I nodded, heart racing in my chest. “I… yes.”
“All of them?”
I shook my head, shutting my eyes.
“She’s fucking useless. Almost died for them, and they still don’t want her?”
“Whatwasthat about?” Zeus asked. “Trying to get around my order? Off yourself before this all comes crashing down.”
“Itwasn’ton purpose.”
“Climbing into a cage with three rutting alphas? Could have fooled me.” Zeus laughed.
“I was protecting my mate.”
Zeus leaned forward slightly, voice ice cold. “I’m sure they went rabid over it, too.”
Again, I didn’t know what to make of him. There was a half smile on his face plastered on like a mask. He was silent through the bond.
“There was that incident, a few nights ago,” Cerus said. “What was that?”
My mind raced, trying to place the timeframe. Shadows flickered in Zeus’s eyes as I watched.
Fuck.
The night Love had bitten me. I tried to keep my breath steady, remembering his rage through the bond.
“It was nothing.” My voice was dry.
“Nothing?” Zeus asked, suddenly stiff.
“I—” but I cut off as Zeus’s aura burst into the small space, then he was closing his fist around my neck.
“Nothing?”He shoved me against the floor of the limo. Panic shot through my system, despite all my attempts to hide it.
Ebony would feel it.

But this was different than when Zeus had hurt me for the videos. There was no camera. No purpose. His eyes were blazing with madness.
I clutched at him. The world was spinning.

I’d been here before. Seen this before.
I wasn’t going back there.
It was too loud.
My own whispers were amplified through the palms I clutched to my ears as I squeezed my eyes shut. Still, it was too loud.
An aura shattered the lyrics of a song.
I tried again like she’d told me to. I tried and tried until there was nothing but me and the words I whispered to desperately drown out the violence outside.
“Zeus.”That was Cerus’s voice cutting through the panic. Just as black blossomed in my vision, the pressure was gone.
