An offer from Love.

A connection with Ebony.

A promise from Rook.

And Drake’s secret, his missing piece that I knew he could take back.

I jumped as the door handle turned, but it wasn’t Zeus who entered. Instead, Cerus stepped in and crossed toward me.

“Don’t,” he said as I made to get to my feet. He sat down on the bed at my side.

Cerus was calm, almost eerily so. He had short black hair and what seemed like a permanent scowl on his hollow face. His scent, unhidden, could perhaps have been nice to another: savoury and perhaps from a bakery shop. All I could smell was charred toast.

“I think Triton is obsessed with you.”

Triton?

I stared up at him, unsure of what he wanted. I’d barely met Triton.

Cerus was stronger in the bond than the others for the bite on my wrist, but even with that he was quiet. He wasn’t looking at me, gaze fixed on the floor before us.

“There’s not a day that goes by without more omegas in his quarters. He’s always been insatiable, but it’s got out of hand.”

I didn’t say anything, though, heart flighty, all my nerves on edge.

His eyes trailed up to me slowly, something hateful in them. “That doesn’t bother you? Knowing your alpha has been fucking omegas by the truckload?”

“He’s not my alpha.”

Cerus turned to me fully, gaze calculating as he drank in my expression. “Is that so?”

“They’remy mates.” All of this was to get them to trade for me, was it not?

“You’re very invested in my pack for an omega who doesn’t consider herself ours.”

“Invested?” I asked, unable to hide the shock from my voice. “You bit me. I don’t want to be here.”

His lip curled. “Is that what you’re going with?”

“It’s the truth.”

Cerus snorted, but his nose wrinkled as his expression twisted. “Zeus is calculated, quiet—he was the clear choice for pack lead. Though he was never quite as cruel as Zephyr even if he has the same dark streak.”

“Why are you telling me this?” With every word, a chill was creeping through my blood.

Something was off about all of this.

“Because I want him back,” Cerus said. “Andyouhave taken him from me.”

“Takenhim?” I stared.

“All that time you’ve spent alone with him, what have you been doing?”

Me?

I got to my feet, heart pounding.

“I don’t even recognise him anymore,” Cerus said. “So tell me, what is it you want?”
