“I want to be with them.”

“I don’t believe you,” Cerus said, his voice chillingly calm. “I think you found a way to get around Zeus’s commands. I think you told them who we are—or perhaps you convinced him to loosen that particular order.”

“Convinced…Zeus?”

Cerus got to his feet, towering over me, dark eyes voids of ice cold anger. I took a small step back, but running wasn’t an option. I couldn’t get out of this room.

“He’s the only one who sees you,” Cerus spat. “When you came back to us, he didn’t want us visiting. Then Triton came in, and you attacked him. Zeus didnothing.”

He grabbed my wrist, dragging me back, his expression twisted in a snarl.

“He’s been changing since you arrived, more and more with every visit. I couldn’t quite put my finger on it until I really paid attention to you.”

“What do you mean?”

He lifted my wrist. I tugged back, but his grip became painful. “I’ve been paying close attention since I gave you this, and you know what I found?”

I couldn’t move, every instinct on high alert as I stared into his cold eyes, feeling his thumb running along the bite he’d left me.

“While our pack lead has been losing his mind…” He cocked his head.“You, our dark bonded omega—ourslave—is with her mates, and…” His lip curled. “You’rehappy.”

A chill ran down my spine at Cerus’s words. My mouth was dry, lips parted but I couldn’t speak. What he was suggesting was absurd, but my instincts were on high alert. Cerus looked dangerous right now. Too quiet.

Too calm.

“You poisoned him.”

I shook my head.

“What have you got planned for tomorrow?”

“Planned?” My voice barely worked. “I want them. My mates. It’s all I’ve ever wanted.”

“You’re lying to me—”

“Ican’tlie—”

He dragged me closer. “You can if you convinced him to remove truth commands.”

“I haven’t convinced him of anything!”

Cerus barely seemed to hear me. He looked mad.“Nowhe wants you? Thinks you’re ours after all, when you were never more than a—”

“Cerus.”Zeus’s word cut through the space, and the alpha before me froze. “Let hergo.”

FORTY-EIGHT

VEX

Cerus’s chest heaved, a snarl on his lips as he finally dragged his eyes to Zeus.

“Nowyou crack, Cerus? When tomorrow, we get everything.”

“Me?” Cerus asked, nostrils flaring. “When all you want is to walk away with a pet? Don’t you care about revenge anymore?”

Zeus sneered. “They’re the same thing.”

“Which do you care more about?” Cerus asked. “If it came to it, which would you choose?”
