“Can you please just tell me if you hate it or not? I promise I won’t be mad. But the suspense is killing me!” Lily presses her hands against my face and squints into my eyes, like she’s trying to read my mind.

“Hate it? Babe, this is the most amazing thing anyone’s ever done for me. I fucking love it. I fucking love you. I was going to turn this garage into a grow house for you at some point.”

“I don’t need a grow house. I need you. Here with me. And I need you to have whatever you need, so you’re happy and never want to be anywhere else.”

“Lemon, you’re all I need. And I never want to be anywhere else. I never want to be anywhere you’re not. The only problem I see is that I’m not going to want to be out here all by myself if you’re not in here with me.”

“I’ll be around. Maybe in the house. Or in my greenhouse. When the weather’s nice, you can open the doors, and I’ll be outside in the garden. Or sitting in my chair on the lawn reading a book. I want you close too, kid. You really like it? You can change it around however you want. I promise you won’t hurt my feelings. I don’t know what any of this stuff does. So, I kind of let your dad and the boys put the saws and tools where they thought they should go.”

“It’s perfect, babe. You’re fucking perfect.”

“That’s very sweet, kid. But we both know I’m the opposite of perfect. If I was perfect, it wouldn’t have taken me so long to realize that you’re exactly what I want.”

“You came around just like I knew you would. It was always supposed to be like this, babe. You and me.”

She nods. “I’ll always come around to you, kid. I love you so freaking much.”

“You really want to sell my stuff at the shop?”

She nods. “People love it. I get asked every day where my shelves are from. And the little display shelf you made for essential oils. The candle holders. You make such beautiful pieces, kid. I don’t have to sell them, though. If you just want to be out here puttering for yourself, that’s fine. But you’re so happy when you’re doing your woodworking. I want you to have everything that makes you happy.”

“You’re what makes me happy, Lemon.”

“You make me the happiest, kid. You make me so freaking happy.”

“I’m going to fuck you now, babe. You want to go back inside or you want me to do it here?”

She smiles up at me. “I mean, we may as well christen the place.”

epilogue

jameson

Lily texted me to come down to the barn because she was coming over to meet Kat and her kids and introduce them to the horses. The kids are so excited to see the horses and be in a real barn, it’s ridiculous. Apparently their barn isn’t a real barn because it doesn’t have any animals in it.

But seeing my Lemon around kids? Well, I’m not sure I’m going to be able to wait for us to get married to get her pregnant. I want to get her pregnant as many times as she lets me as soon as she lets me. I can’t wait to give this woman the family she deserves. And I can’t wait to have a bunch of little blonde girls who look just like their mom trying to gang up on me with her. They’re going to terrorize the hell out of me, and I can’t fucking wait.

Kat and Lily seem to get along pretty great, and I’m happy that my girl has a new friend. I love the way Lily’s face lights up whenever she looks at Violet and Apple Pie. I want her to have everything that makes her happy. Her shop. Her horses. Friends. Family. Me. Most of all, I want her to have me. All of me. As much of me as she can handle, because I can’t ever get enough of her.

Lily and Kat are talking away while I show the kids how to gently brush Apple Pie down, going with the grain of her coat and not against it. When I pick up her little hooves to show them, their jaws drop open. These kids really love animals. Their mom definitely needs to get them a pet.

“Whose dumbass SUV is that?” Jarret demands, walking into the barn and sounding like a complete asshole.

I ignore him and so does everyone else. But that doesn’t stop him as he angrily stomps closer until he’s outside Apple Pie’s stall.

“I asked whose dumbass SUV that is next to the barn. And I’m assuming it’s yours, lady. We don’t park next to the barn. Did you break in here or something? Just so you know, I won’t be calling the cops on you. I’ll be throwing you out on your ass on the highway myself.”

“Remember what I said about grumpy cowboys?” Lily says, laughing as she steps closer to Kat.

When Lily rolls her eyes, I know my brother is probably glaring at her like a total asshole. He can only see Kat and Lily. The kids, Apple Pie, and I are off in the corner.

“What the hell are you doing here? And who the hell is this?” Jarret jerks his thumb at Kat.

Kat’s just staring open-mouthed at him. That’s probably the appropriate response when faced with a complete fucking asshole.

“Is this how you are around women when you’re alone? No wonder you’re single, man.” Standing up, I walk over and wrap my arm around Lily.

“What the hell are you doing here? And why aren’t you working? I told you to plow the north field today.”
