“I know you do. Desperate times call for desperate measures.”

“And you’re… desperate?”

“You have no fucking idea.”

“Hmmm. Well, I’m apparently talking to you again. The rest is under consideration.”

My lips twitch. “Anything I can do to help with the considering?”

Her lips curve into another sweet smile as she sips her iced coffee. “I’ll let you know if I think of anything.”

The woman lives to torture me. But talking is progress, so I’ll take it.

“Now tell me about your store. What’s the plan here?”

Lily tells me about her vision, and if I didn’t already have a reason to help her however I can, the way her whole face shines when she talks about it would have convinced me.

“I can help you with anything you need. Other than the plants. It’s probably best you take care of the plants yourself.”

“You don’t have to do that.”

“I know that. I want to. You remember how strong I am, Lemon. I can go for hours. I can go all night. I’ll help you haul this shit out of here. And I could even build some shelves and stuff for you, if you wanted.”

“Really? I didn’t know you were still doing carpentry. Your stuff was so beautiful. I always hated that you stopped.”

“Really? Thanks. Didn’t think anyone noticed I stopped.”

“I noticed. I’d love to have you build me something, but with how much giant flower refrigerators cost, my shelving budget is IKEA, or bust.”

“I wouldn’t let you pay me, even if you wanted to, Lemon.”

“Are you ever going to tell me why you started calling me Lemon?”

“Probably.”

“Are you going to tell me today?”

“Nope.”

“Do you have time to build me shelves? With how busy you are at the farm?”

“I’ll make time. And since all I’ve had to do at night is jerk off while I listen to you fuck yourself, I’ve had a lot of time on my hands. Too much. Probably be good to put these hands to use at night doing something other than jerking off.”

“How are all your little girlies at the Goldrush?” She takes another sip of her iced coffee, like she doesn’t care about my answer. But her light brown eyes don’t leave my face.

Frowning at her, I shake my head. “I don’t know. Flirting with some other guy, probably? I haven’t been back there since the night I took you home.”

“Aren’t you going to ask me if I’ve been back there? Or if I’ve had any more handsy TumbleWed dates?”

Slowly, I shake my head, even as I bite down on the anger that rises up when I think about any other man touching her. “Nope. Even though I know you went to the Goldrush with Jasper and convinced him not to invite me.”

When she laughs, it sounds like music. “I’m impressed, kid. I didn’t think you were the type to share. Isn’t that why I stopped talking to you in the first place?”

“You’re talking to me now. That’s all that matters. And I’m not the type to share. But since however you’ve been spending your nights ends with you calling me to listen to you fuck yourself with your little vibrator by ten-thirty, I’m not too worried that you’re running around fucking anyone else, Lemon. And I told you how it’d end if you keep calling me, kid.”

Lily’s lips twitch and then pull into a smile. “You did.”

“Say it again.”
