PAIGE

Pain takes over my entire body as I scrunch up my face and push again. “You didn’t say you were delivering the baby!” I screech through pants as I glare at Oscar.

His head pops up from between my legs, and he stares back at me as though I’m the crazed one. “Of course I’m going to deliver him. I’m not going to allow someone else the opportunity.”

My temper skyrockets when another contraction happens. “Him! You said him!”

“Push, through the pain, Paige.” His smooth voice coaxes, infuriating me more.

I give out an almighty scream as I bear down. “Very good, and again.” I grind my teeth and push again.

“Excellent, the baby will arrive soon. Doctor, have the umbilical scissors on hand. I want Paige to offer skin-to-skin contact immediately.” My eyes widen at his calmness and understanding. “One more push, Paige.” He nods toward me. “You’ve got this.”

With Oscar’s confidence flowing through me, I push with every ounce of power I have and roar into the room.

The pressure below seems to ease, and in the blink of an eye, Oscar is by my side holding our baby. Tears cloud my vision as he places a wet newborn into my arms. “You did incredible, Paige.” He brushes the damp hair from my eyes while placing a tender kiss on my forehead, then I watch in amazement as he bends down and gifts our baby with a replica kiss.

He tilts his head to the side, enabling his eyes to lock with mine. “I love you both so much, you know.”

I swallow. “I love you too.”

He stands, straightening his shirt with a low grumble about how he couldn’t deal with anyone’s bodily fluids but ours.

“I’d like to introduce our son to his cousins,” he announces, shocking me completely.

OSCAR

Watching Paige nurse our son, is beautiful. Not only is our son getting sufficient nutrients to build his immune system, but she’s also helping to build his diverse mind, all while nurturing him as a mother should.

I will not lie, my wife’s tits are, quite frankly, phenomenal, and I will count down the days to being able to use them for my pleasure again.

There’s a knock on the bedroom door, and I give the doctor a nod now that Paige is covered. I allow Dr. Yates to work around us while we have some private time as a family. All he has to do is tidy up and check Paige’s vitals. I did the man’s job for him, after all.

He opens the door to allow Bren and his wayward clan into the room. “Ossss,” Seb screeches out in excitement like he didn’t see me only eighty-four minutes ago.

“It’s a boy.” Paige smiles down at our son’s dark head. I almost want to roll my eyes at my wife’s naivety, and scream, of course it’s a fucking boy.

“Congratulations.” Sky beams back at her with one hand resting on her own bump while juggling Sam on her hip.

“He got a name yet?” I frown at Bren’s question. What a dumb thing to ask. Any decent parent prepares for the birth of their child by choosing a name sufficient to suit them.

“We’ve called him Brennan.” Paige’s smile grows as she glances up toward Bren before dropping her gaze back down to our son, as if she doesn’t want to take her eyes off him for a moment longer.

Bren stumbles back and his throat bobs as though he’s struggling for words. He really does confuse me at times.

He clears his throat. “You named him after me?” His eyes appear a little watery when he meets mine, and I narrow my eyes in confusion.

I scoff. “Of course I didn’t name my son after you, you idiot. I named him after our father. After all, the man saved my life. Without him, I wouldn’t have Paige.”

When my father took a bullet to save my life, any animosity between us was gone in an instant. I owe him for what I have today, and I will allow him to live on through our son.

A better, more intelligent version of him, of course.

When our son steps out of his own shadow, his light will be so bright he will burn your retinas. He will show the world that different is not only good but great.

He will become the light to guide us all, and the darkness? That can stay where it belongs.

Brennan O’Connell will become my greatest creation.

We all just have to wait a little while until he gets there...

THE END
