“You’re just trying to make me feel better—”

My doorbell rings.

“Are you expecting company this early?” she says, suggestively.

“No. Wait a second. I’m going to see who’s at the door.” I put on a robe to cover myself and run to the door. It’s not my baby sister Ciara because she always announces her arrival with her sultry voice while she knocks my door down.

“Who is it?” I ask.

“Your fairy godmother. Joking. It’s Todd. Your booking manager.” A fancy title to hide the true nature of your job. “Open up. We need to talk.”

Shit, shit, shit.

I’m in trouble for last night.

“Todd? What’s wrong?”

“Nothing is wrong. I have something for you.”

After unlocking my multiple locks—safety first—I open the door.

Todd is standing there with his arms wide open as if he’s on Broadway ending a performance with a grand ta-da!

He brings his hands together, and tucks them under his chin, cocks his head to the side, sighs and just stares at me.

“Why are you looking at me like that?”

“You scored!”

“Scored what?”

“Darling, you mean whom, not what.”

“I’m confused. Is this about Bryce?”

“Why else do you think I’d be standing at your door at eight fifteen on a Friday morning? It has to be critical for me to get up this early.”

“I’m listening—Wait! Cassie is on the phone.”

“Tell her you’ll call her back,” he shouts as I run back to my room to grab my phone.

“Cassie, Todd told me to tell you I’ll call you back,” I say, running back downstairs.

“Sofia, call me the second that princess leaves!” she says.

“I will.”

“What did she say?”

“She called you princess.”

“And you know it!” he says, snapping his fingers at me. “Back to business. You made quite the impression on Mr. Van Der Linden last night.”

Since I’m still unsure why Todd is here, I tread carefully. “He liked how I was able to interact with the crowd in multiple languages.”

“Sofia, quit the bullshit! You’re working for an escort service, not a diplomatic agency.”

“Sorry.”
