“Wow. Women can’t resist you,” he says.

I scour every corner of the second floor as I inconspicuously search for Arianne. Many staff members are already spilling out of the office building for lunch. Good. The fewer people, the better. Still, I don’t want to draw too much attention to myself. After searching the lunchroom-slash-break room, the kitchen, all the meeting rooms, and the sample room without any luck, I head to the intelligence room. We keep a prototype of every single one of our headphone models in the sample room. The intelligence room is like a lab. It’s dedicated to tracking our competitors’ bestselling headphones. When I get there, the door is ajar. Arianne’s silhouette traverses the room.

Gotcha!

I look around to make sure the coast is clear before slipping inside. Arianne has her back to me as she searches the shelves.

I lock the door as quietly as possible.

For a few short seconds, I admire her, enjoying how she’s oblivious to my presence.

How will I survive the trip to Germany without fucking her every minute of the day?

“I have a big problem with what you’re wearing, Miss Buchanan,” I say.

She jumps.

“Good God, you scared the living daylights out of me,” she says, flipping around, a hand pressed against her chest.

“That wasn’t my intention,” I tell her. I approach a shelf and drop my belongings.

“I nearly jumped out of my skin.”

I respond with a wide smile, as my eyes travel up and down the length of her body.

“You frighten me when you look at me like that,” she says.

“Like what?”

I take a step toward her.

“Like, you know…” she waves a furious finger at me.

“No, I don’t.”

Another step.

“Like you’re harvesting unholy thoughts.”

There’s no hiding what’s brewing inside me. “It’s your fault.”

“My fault?”

“Yes, your fault.”

One more step and we’re up close.

We’re breathing hard.

I lift a hand and run a light finger over her cheek. “For the second day in a row, you leave me speechless with your wardrobe selection.”

She blushes.

“It’s only a skirt and a t-shirt,” she says.

“Bullshit!”

“I made a commitment to avoid wearing a suit every day. This is me trying my darndest.” The slight pull at the corner of her mouth doesn’t go unnoticed. Neither does the glee of malice shining bright from her eyes.
