“You’re serious?”

“I am. I’ve never been compelled to date a woman before, but Arianne cast a spell on me, and frankly, I’m not itching to break it.”

“Holy shit,” Rhys says. “I guess I should say, Holy Chic.”

We both laugh.

“That stupid t-shirt started it all,” I say.

“Yeah, that and the steamy salsa dance.”

“Arianne had me from the moment the lights were turned back on in the elevator, but Cesar’s engagement party sealed my fate.”

“I called you on it when we spoke the day those telling photos went viral, but you denied it.”

“I answered your questions truthfully. It’s not my fault you weren’t asking the right ones.”

“Omission is the same as denial,” he says.

“Yada yada yada.”

“I guess, that’s beside the point now,” he says. “Let’s move on to the more important matter at hand… Beckett Christensen is off the market. What the fuck?”

“All this bullshit I’ve always heard about the one… it turns out it’s just a question of bumping into her.”

Rhys shakes his head in amazement. “I leave for three weeks and you’re now pussy whipped.”

“Guilty as charged!”

Chapter 44

Arianne

Rhys, Beckett, and me have been sitting in the 1938 Crocker conference room for the past thirty minutes. I’ve been dying to share my idea with them, but I wanted to wait for Rhys to return from Asia.

This is a month in the making. Thirty days of due diligence. Four weeks of thinking, planning and strategizing. Even though the ground-breaking idea was planted in my head well before our business trip, I can’t deny the impact of the three-day conference in Germany. Looking at Sennheiser’s success from the inside gave me the confidence to push forward.

“What do you think?” I ask when I finish my presentation.

“SCORE Yours,” Rhys says.

“SCORE Yours,” Beckett says.

“SCORE Yours,” I say with a nod.

They exchange a knowing look like they’re having a silent conversation.

I’ve already walked Rhys and Beckett through the production aspect of the project, now it’s a question of selling them on how this edgy concept is what their company needs to reach the next level.

“It has strong brand recognition and ‘yours’ brings forth the unique aspect of this new line of product,” I tell them.

“I can see it,” Rhys says.

“Everything on the market is a different shade of sameness,” I say. “SCORE Yours stands out. There are two ways of getting customizable headphones—you either do it yourself or you scour the pages of Etsy to find a refurbished pair with a design you like. With SCORE Yours, we’re talking about brand new out-of-the-box top quality sleek painted headphones customized to your customers’ taste. True, there’s a waiting time—so, no instant gratification—but the end result will be well worth it.”

“Pricey headphones with a high gloss paint job!” Beckett says.

“This is how your company goes from a few billion dollars to eight billion dollars or more.”
